Okay, I'm in the market for a new Digital Camera, my son lost mine at the Excalibur in Las Vegas.

I'd like to get something 3.0 MP or higher, that takes videos with sound and has a decent battery life. I prefer MMC for memory, or even mini DVD's would be cool.

Prices will be a factor, but I need to know what I should be looking for, as I know nothing.

LOL

Thanks guys. Links and pics would be great.

Faithofadragon is recommending the Canon A520, looks nice, but Shopper.com has the Kodak EasyShare CX7430 rated pretty high.

What else guys?

what size camera do you like?

do you want big zoom?

do you need manual settings (such as apperture, shutter speed, white balance)?

Depends what is the most important to you.

If image size and quality is very important, and video is minor, I'd recommend the Canon A85 as posted above. For a point-n-shoot at that range, it can't be beat.

For a little more money, I'd recommend the Fuji S5000.

Both have 3x zoom (don't worry about digital zoom - it results in terrible quality. It's the same as zooming in once you saved the pic on your pc.) Both are also 4mp.

If you will be doing a lot of video, and need good quality with sound, plus still want to take REALLY nice pics at 3mp, I highly recommend the Canon S1IS. It has top rated video quality plus 10x optical zoom which is really sweet.

It also has an image stabilization mechanism so that when you are zoomed way in, your pictures are still incredibly clear and sharp.

It does video and pics better than any camera I've ever seen for under $400. Plus it is SLR-like in the way that the view finder shows what the lens sees (though through electronical means), rather than a seperate hole, which means the pic/video you get will be what you see when looking.

All cameras above have easy shoot settings (portrait, landscape, night, etc) as well as fully manual control.

Like everyone says, it all depends on what you want in a camera.

But listen to Joshuwa, THE MAN KNOWS what he's talking about!

Personally, I recomend anything CANON, you can't go wrong
For my money right now, I'd get a Canon SD500 (AKA Ixy 600, AKA IXUS 600)
I almost picked one up in Japan, after taxes and exchange, it would of been like $200 less than buying here in North America, but I already have a decent Canon, and my main criteria when I was over there looking for a camera smaller than what I have now, and I found it, it was a Casio something, just came out like 3 weeks in Japan, but the lens wasn't as good as the Canon, so I didn't get it.

Anyway, if you want a point and shot, get the A Series Canons. I don't think they have optical zoom though,...

If you want something better, size, quality and optical zoom, get a Canon SD200 or a Canon SD300, decent cameras, the SD200 is 3.2MB, 3X optical zoom, what you want. But unfortunately get away from MMC, SD is the way to go! smile.gif
