Default Re: rear bumpers

hope its not the tranny..

mine had similar symptoms. We too thought it was the dam bearing. Turned out it was the main gear.

The only way you will know is if you pull the whole thing out.

The tranny under load can sometimes have some misdiagnose something.

IF you wanna try and rule out the tranny...
Change the gear oil..

It will take you about 30 min to an hour if its your first time. Remove the gear oil and check and see how it is. If it smells cooked.. your fcked. If you see a bunch of little flakes in there... your fcked.
If it comes out fine..

Then you know for sure its flywheel, clutch, bearing related.

It could also be your pressure plate. Which in that case it would be VHR. Ive had a clutchmasters pressure plate fail on me before, so you wanna look into this as soon as possible.

Rule out the tranny, or just pull the whole thing out. The sooner the better, before its too late.

According to VHR...

1) Unusual wear of bearing may cause...

2) Due to usuanl wear of disc, the gap between bearing and diagframe spring may cause...

3) Problem with master cylinder...

4) Sometime...sound just wear out and gone...

is it possible to get cluth and flywheel specifications from VHR?
pressure plate finger travel
flywheel thickness . factory VS VHR

i remember that factory flywheel was significantly thicker then VHR therefrore this woudl explain why clutch engages very close to the floor. in other words slave cylinder must push teh fork further in order to completely disengage the clutch. so when foot is off the cluth there is significantly more space between bearing/pressureplate(thinner flywheel therefore whole assy is more back away form the bearing/fork)

this may cause the bearing to sometimes not sit flat on the pressureplate or rattle if its crooked

am i making any sence?

i spoke to a hyundai tech i know at local dealer and he had same issue with his Talon ... even same noise but once factory parts were put back in everything went back to normal . also no damage was to be seen on clutch plate or bearing after removal
