If there was the possibility of a cf or fg hatch for the RD2 I know I would put down around a grand for cf with a light window and shipping. Im sure there would be a few more (Java possibly, JonGTR) Of course it wouldnt be cheap but the weight saving of a cf/fg hatch with lexan would be amazing.

You got that right Tanc. Look at the people buying a used airram for up to $800.

The best way in my opinion to make these cost efficient is to make it out of FG, and not include any window with it. It will save on product, shipping, labour, material etc.

Than all one has to do is go to a body shop, have their glass installed in the new hatch or get a lexan window if they please. There goes 100lbs.

You can either get a shop to custom to do it, more $$

Or you buy a blank sheet and cut/grind it to spec. Once finished, you heat the lexan up, and clamp it to your window to form a rough shape. Than you can have a custom aluminum bracket for the hatch, than rivet the lexan in place.

o, and another thing about the rd community and expensive parts.... out of the XX number of people that say they want it so bad, and want to get it produced, when it comes down to paying for the stuf theres about 1/3-1/2 of the people come up with some excuse on why they can't afford it..

i wasn't really giving guesstimates, just saying how its cheaper when they are mass produced, and nothing like a FG/CF hatch is in enough demand to make it worth it for the manufacturer..

I'm interested in a FG (for price) hatch for my RD1. I want it without spoiler holes.
Will need it shipped to Israel. . .

What do you think the price might be?

I thought I'd leave this thread for a couple days to see what interest it would get and wow already 15 posts.

1- GB possibility = good
The way I have decided to run current and future GB's. (some variations/options are changable)

- GB will remain open until we reach 10 confirmed orders
- GB is for X style
- Mold production will start once we receive 6 of 10 confirmed deposits ONLY.
- All prices are in Canadian Funds ONLY if paying by Paypal.

A deposit page will be set up on compactdivisions.com. Deposits will be $xxxCDN amount
Deposits will remain refundable until we receive 5 confirmed buyers. At 6 buyers the deposits are comitted and will be non-refundable.
When the GB closes and all GB participants have made deposits a seperate invoice for the remaining balance will be sent.
*Note that no unit will ship untill all payments have been received in full
*Note IMPORTANT So there is no confusion
No mold production will begin until we have a confirmed 6 of 10 deposits.
Since I don't have an OEM XXX product available to me I will have to buy one from a wreckers to make the mold. I will do this at the point when we reach 5 confirmed deposits only.

2- Weight is subject to producing the final product but you can expect it to be atleast half the weight of the stock unit without glass weight. For example, the Elantra trunk weighs 26lbs naked. The infused carbon fiber trunk I have on my car is 5lbs naked. CF outer skin and FG inner frame.

3- lexan - I have at one time looked into getting it, unfortunately the pricing for lexan is WAAAY too expensive and is almost the same price as a retail hatch.

4- Fiberglass or Carbon fiber would be available from one mold. This would increase the available customers. Good thing for all, me thinks

5 - As I haven't really looked at a hatch for an RD (1or2) Pricing would be determined at that point. But you might expect in the range CF $900-$1000 +s/h Fiberglass range from $600ish +s/h

I would probably get a cf rd2 hatch at some time if it were available. I wouldnt be looking to spend over a grand shipped or so though. If you get a chance, take a look at our hatches a little more closely and see what you think.

this is something i'd sell my supercharger for. BUT, and please don't blame me, I would have to be 100% positive they are being made and shipped to us garunteed. I've seen to many things flop on this forum to give my supercharger away that easy.

i'd rather have a better weight ratio than the pain and inconveniance of boost anyday. there must be RD1 and RD2 for this to work well.

i'd have to have LOTS of proof to be convinced into this, a written agreement or something.

OMG, all this intrest is GREAT.

I am really glad this many people are considering this mod, I have wanted it for a long time and it would go great with the cf hood.

I am only intrested in an RD1 hatch in carbon fiber with holes for the wing - on that note,

How much would it be and how much intrest is out there for a wing in CF? Of course the stock wing is likely light enough and such for you FG electors, but for those that are intrested in the CF hatch, the stock wing would look plain gay so this sounds like a good idea to me and should only cost a couple hundred extra right?

Post up your opinions on the wing idea, because everyone knows how rediculous our cars look without a wing, lol.

Thanks for all the support everyone, hopefully we can get this started!!!

T.

HKC, I agree, I have also watched many promised products, from a particular vendor usually (we wont mention names) not get shipped after full payments have been made, so we would need some finished product pictures before paid in full, or a signed contract/reciept. Sounds like a good way to get some insurance in this respect.
