Cylinder head build up to lower CR - pics included (Att: 1600 Elantra owners also)
OK I have been asked what exactly is done to a cylinder head to lower the CR - I will explain it here and show you a picture of the head that is currently running on my personal Tiburon still today.
Right what happens is I will strip your cylinder head down - remove valves, cotters, springs, retainers, lifters etc. I then get the head sprayed with a molten aluminium using T61 grade ally which acts as a 'spraypaint' onto the mother material, it bonds into the mother material (machanical process not chemical) and layers the head. Once the layering is complete according to spec to lower the CR to a decided ratio - I machine the layer to give a polished finish.
The head is then cleaned thouroughly and blown out with compressed air, flow tests through each water and oil channel are tested and cleaned.
The head is then re-assembled - what I also do is LAP the valves for you when re-installing them for you - renewing your seat area and I also remove the carbon off each valve aswell.
Once the head is re-assembled It is complete. In the picture below (thanks alot Maier!) you will see a red circle surrounding a section that shows you the build up the clearest. you will see a section has been added to the head.
Regarding the strength of this process - I have broken my engine twice with high RPM detonation testing new development work I designed and although the piston and plug was TOTALLY destroyed (picture also attached below (Maier !!) the head was not harmed AT ALL!! I couldn;t believe it myself!!
This is all included in the cost of the kit for the 1600 16V Elantra owners - now you can keep your stock bottom end and simply remove just the head to ship to me.
This can also be done on Tiburon's and ANY other engine if yuo prefer to leave stock pistons in tact.
