Would the alpine supercharger even be worth buying?

If you knew someone who had one for sale pretty cheap (under a grand), would it still be worth buying or is it a waste of money no matter what the cost?

I'm currently installing one of these in my Tib. And it has been a complete pain in the arse. I wish I would have just gone turbo instead at this point. The pic you posted is slightly different than mine in some minor aspects.

For the price it is awesome but I hope you get some directions. Or PM me and I will tell you some of the pitfalls I ran into. Simple crap like getting the injector rail to fit. Does the current owner have the wiring diagram for the ECU?

Off topic: Does anybody know how many of these were actually produced?

I have been running the Alpine kit on my 05 Tib since it was 6 months old, it's a DD and way more fun to drive with the SC on it.

I have made some changes to the basic kit.

I have the AEM FIC for fuel control with a set of 525cc SRT Neon injectors. The Unichip with a 5th injector just didn't work very good for me.

I also fabbed a 6 rib drive belt setup so I could run a smaller SC pulley, I had trouble with belt slip with the 4 rib belt.

I use a 61mm SC pulley and get about 10 lbs of boost.

V6, yes, it's worth it for $1000

I4, no, it's not worth it for $1000

to me yes, i mean a DECENT turbo setup that will last and can be daily driven EVERYDAY SAFELY will run you about 3,500 or a little less, thats with good quality parts nothing skimped on but i love my turbo setup over a supercharger but the only downside with turbo is the lag issue, supercharger is INSTANT boost ive seen somepeople twin charge but i heard the tuning is a pain in the arse, i guess the arguement always differs, user preference

What is shown in the picture is not everything that is needed to run the supercharger system, so I hope it is just a generic picture.

The supercharger install is way more straight forward compared to a turbo install in my opinion making it easier. Tiburon2k does the kit come with a wiring diagram for the ECU? This is an important point unless your going with some other type of ECU.

My opinion would be to figure the cost of other components you need to get this up and running. Then take that list and replace supercharger with turbocharger and see the price difference.

Supercharger vs turbo depends on where you like the extra power.

I like the bottom end torque that you get from a SC. It makes the Tib feel like a it has lot bigger motor. My Tib is a dd car and I wouldn't get to use the upper end power from turbo near as much.

One suggestion if you decide to go with the Alpine kit, throw the Unichip and 5th injector out and go with the AEM FIC and larger primary injectors, my car never ran right untill I got rid of the Unichip.

You CAN have low end power boost with a turbo, but it has to spool fast. That probably puts the turbocharger at or beyond its efficiency range at high engine speed, but that is a compromise you have to make for yourself.

Hell twin charge. Ive already got the turbo kit and MS. Bigger turbo and Superchager for the low end torque........hmmm if the price was right id try it. All in all you are gonna spend the same amount of money getting that to work right as you would on a turbo kit, and you would make a lot more power turbo charged. My 2 cents
