well I'm planning on welding up my own charge pipes. and wondering what would be the best thing to use?
I don't think i can use aluminium because i don't think it's stick weldable plus i heard it's harder to weld. I'm thinking mild steel and then getting it pc'd for looks/better hose retention but would there be any advantages to using stainless?
and on a side note. 2.5" is what i'm planning on running, would that be the best choice?
thanks in advance!! headbang.gif

for the size i know that the amount of boost you plan to run is important for derterming the size, says how to figure it in max boost, the bigger the pipes the more lag because it has to pressurize all the volume but there is also turbulence along the walls

2.5inch is a nice general size for most applications. Mild steel is cheap and nice. Stainless steel would corrode less and keep it a little cooler... although it is heavy.
I would go with mild steel for its cheapness and how it lasts a pretty good amount of time. It does everything decent, but nothin really good. tongue.gif

thanks!! looks like i'll be picking up some 2.5" mild steel then, found some on jegs, i could only find aluminum on jcwhitney though. 02.gif
think it'll just check up with some local exhaust shops, maybe one of them will have some so i don't have to have it shipped...

I seem to recall somebody on the HyundaiPerformance site cutting up an AEM intake to make charge pipes...
dang!! you could buy enough mandrel bent pipe to make charge pipes and exhaust for the cost of an aem!!!
edit: oh and good idea jaws, hadn't thought of that yet.. smile.gif
double edit: whats the difference between mild steel, aluminizied mild steel and aluminum? this ebay auction says they have the last two.. i thought aluminized mild was aluminum. well i guess my real question is can you stick weld aluminized steel.
ebay pipes!!
found a good spot to get these parts at
http://www.roadraceengineering.com/mandrelbends.htm
also happened to notice they are a vendor over on nt... we aught to get them here.
well I think i'll pick up a few u bends and a 90 and i should be in good shape. smile.gif
