Default What Headers would complement S/C

As time goes on, I keep leaning towards the Alpine S/C unit. So I'm adjusting my mods to keep in line with that path. I have heard that with S/C, back pressure is good in order to keep the boost in the engines. Any truth to that. I have always been leaning towards the RPW race headers.

For that, you would have to talk to John Conchie of Alpine. I've shown them 4 different headers (HVE, 2 from SR, and RPW), and they did not think any of them would be a good match for the SC. They are thinking of building a set for the Stage2 SC kit, but that would be at least 6 months away.

Hollow, I think for the fact that Neal owns a 2.0 liter beta, they're most likely talking about the SC for the 4 cylinder.

Neal, the thing is with the backpressure, N/A engines have valve overlap to help the engines breathe easier but with any form of BOOST going into an engine, you don't want hardly any if any at all valve overlap. If you have too much then the boost will go straight in your intake valves and a good deal of it will escape out your exhaust. Kspec makes cams for the beta that fixes this. They're pretty damn expensive but in the long run worth it. You should have very free flowing exhaust if you'd do these cams as the lobes are bigger but without these cams, I couldn't suggest for you to go one way or the other. I leave that up to Random or someone that has more experience with that. I'd like to hear someone elses P.O.V. on the kspec cams.

If its of any help I have the SR 421 header, a Janspeed stainless steel exhaust with no cat and the F2 Evo cams (same as the 1.8 cams)

Although, I may have to change the cam at some point if it is overlapping too much.

I have the Beta II engine. What do you guys think about "down grading" the intake cam from the 1.8 or beta I engine.

Also, what about using a turbolator exhaust tip or bullet?

Xorro-

What strut bar are you using?
Any bumping or clearance issues with the blower?

I can help anwser that one Neal. It don't fit unless you modify the bracket. Height wise was no biggy but the pully hits the bar near the strut tower.
SO basically I have a strut bar in the house doing nothing. I have asked Road Race if they can build custom brackets for the bar itself or make one for me its no problem they said but its going to cost me about 170 max. Now I am just lazy and havn't ben there yet.
On the headers part Random had my beautiful
4-1 rpw headers sitting in my car at Alpine but John said no way. sad.gif sad.gif With a high flow cat too. sniff sniff.
4-2-1 design is what he recommended but using a smaller diameter tubing. Hopefully they do include a set of headers for stage 2. GOing to have to get some ear plugs to drive.

Thanks for the reply!

That totally sux about the RPW headers and the 4-1's. So what the hell am I supposed to get!! AARGH!!
I seems like a waste to get a cat back and then add the header. I want to do it all at once.

Do you like your S/C? You mention earplugs- is the unit loud?

I was sceptical at first. But now I love this thing. The earplugs meaning its the exhaust thats going to get loud. Its a very nice load roar. I love setting people car alarms off just by starting my car. I already see people looking when I about 300 feet away. But its do to my exhaust.
Random says its a little loud for his taste.lol
I only have a 2 1/4 cat back with SR muffler as far as my exhaust goes.
The S/C does make a load whining noise when you gun it though but I like it.
