what kind of welding is best to use for dp, charge pipes, etc.??
I debating between learning how (just for the experience), or just ordering it from speed-facter so I won't have to deal with a local shop.
I've stick welded before, but don't have my own and don't really see that as being strong enough.
what i'm thinking is ordering the new manifold from speed-factor (good deal at 675 for mani and dp) and making my own charge pipes since I've already have a intercooler.
any input would be great,
thanks

mig would work.. do a search on google.. it works wonders smile.gif
i wouldnt use any kind of steel for the charge piping(maybe aluminized steel?). that shit would be heavy, and is not needed for charge piping because it stays cool. just wrap up some aluminum charge piping with some het wrap stuff.
the DP would have to be steel though.
TIG welding would be expensive...

i know my uncle actually won a TIG welder for a really good price at some industrial tooling auction.

Id suggest tig.. Tig is MUCH stronger and with practice, will produce much nicer welds than a Mig.. Tig is alot harder to learn than a mig though.. And a mig is much faster, and cheaper..
^^ i get 10% off stuff at sears... and if i can convince them its for work purposes (i work at the auto center) i can get it for 25% off....
give me cash and i'll get it for you + shipping and my commission. (risk of termination if caught)

cool, thanks for all the input, looks like i need to learn to tig weld, I was rereading my copy of the turbo bibla (maximum boost) and they did suggest tib welding something light for the charge piping
looks like I'll have to get a ac/dc tig welder to do aluminum??
