Default turbo vs supercharger

i know this topic is always talked about, but does anyone know anything about the alpine supercharger for the tiburon? the cost is $2500 for the complete kit. includes-
EATON MP 45 SUPERCHARGER
CAST ALUMINIUM INLET MANIFOLD
CAST THROTTLE BODY ADAPTOR
SUPPLIMENTAL FUEL INJECTOR CONTROLLER (UNICHIP AND
SUPERCHARGER MODULE) PLUS EXTRA INJECTOR
FUEL REGULATOR
SPARK PLUGS
SUPERCHARGER BELT

or would it be better to go turbo?

their supercharger is crap... i havnt heard anybody say good things about it yet.... better to make ur own turbo kit

since there is a alpine rep in the US it may be less crap but ive heard horror stores about having to machine the manifold to only seeing 20-40hp gains etc

There is an Alpine Rep here. His name is BALLRUB. Do a search for his name and you should find his contact information. Shoot him an e-mail or call him and he'll tell you all about the S/C and TURBO.

Ignore those numbers

I have the Alpine Supercharger, and the Alpine turbocharger.

To date, the turbo's best performance is 169.9 HP and 167.8 Ft Lbs to the wheels. Dyno available (It's been posted here)

TO date, the Superchargers best performance is 152 HP and 145 Ft Lbs to the wheels. Dyno available (It's been posted here).

The Turbo showed a 50 HP gain to the wheels
the supercharger showed a 20 HP gain to the wheels.

Until Alpine re-tunes the Unichip, I would not reccomend either product at the moment. If these gains are represenative of what the kits are capable of, then you the end purchaser should be aware of that information prior to purchase.

The HP figures you were supplied with are 100% inaccurate.

#1. They stock results are obtained using 96 octane fuel, and reoptimizing the stock ECU to work with 96 octane (prior to installing either SC or turbo)
#2. The end results were obtained are using the same 96 octane fuel and re-optimized stock ECU, not using 91 or 87 octane fuel on a stock ECU.
#3. The figures are ESTIMATES OF ENGINE HP taken from a WHEEL DYNO.
#4. The figures are from MAP cars found in South Africa (No cat converters), not USA spec MAF cars with USA spec ECU's and Cat converters.

I have e-mailed Alpine and informed them that they should CLAIRIFY how those above figures were obtained every time someone asks. as the website does NOT state how those figures are obtained.

Alpine's statement was that no one else in the world has complained about kit performance not matching the dyno's on their website or the figures they quote via e-mail. I explained to them that EVERYONE I have talked to with one of their kits has complained about the REAL performance vs the performance claimed on their website. No one I have talked to YET has said Alpine told them the above information regarding the published dyno figures.

I URGE everyone to e-mail Alpine USA and Alpine South Africa to have them correct their website. If they want to keep the inflated figures on their website, they should at least be honest enought to provide the above information about grade of fuel, and estimate of engine HP, not wheel HP.

I am attempting to work with Alpine to get NEW numbers for USA spec cars using my Turbo and Supercharger, however, they cannot retune the cars and re-run the numbers until late September. (30th).

I am also one of the owners of an Alpine SuperCharger Kit.

It does run less than expected as Random said coming from factory.

The thing is though I am getting the unichip re-tuned Sept.21.2002 (Saturday).

Alot of thanks to BallRub for that. wink

So if you can wait a bit longer, I will be posting results and a list of all installed mods on my car when it's finished to let everyone know how it went. And the story as the supercharger unfolded in my life, so everyone can know what to expect from at least one customer's point of view.

www.capa.com.au has a twin screw supercharger kit available.

In theory, it is superior to the roots style unit that alpine uses. But the supercharger itself is going to be sorta noisy compared to the roots style.

Yep you are right the kit does perform less than they state and they are talking crap about no one else telling them as i told nearly a year ago now. I gained 77 horses with there original programming and a bit more after the quick tune so i cant wait to see the result of getting the chip's tunned at the beguining of next month. But i have to say i dont seem to have had all of the problems everyone else has had maybe it is because in the UK we also have MAP sensors plus i have no cat.
