Default Turbo ? for the Turbo Masters of the Universe

Hey All,

I've been building N/A motors since birth and am new to the F/I scene. Gotta '03 4cyl Tibby and really want to turbo charge it. Just a quick copule of questions for you all.
Got a buddy selling a low mile T-25 Turbo for cheap and I was wondering how this would perform on the tibby Beta II? What kind of boost levels could I reliably get out of it? Also does anyone know if the T-25 has the same type of manifold connection as the T3/T4? smile.gif

T25 comes in several exhast setups, but it's typically not compatible with the Garret T3 flange.

The T25 would produce around 210 flywheel horsepower on the BETA reliably... The DSM/Eclipse folks call it the "T-too-small". The T25 is the stock turbo on some of the GST/GSX Eclipse/DSM vehicles, along the same size as a 14B. On your motor, reliable boost level would be around 15-18psi with a GOOD intercooler, and even at that level you're looking at fairly low power numbers. I think it flows arond 380cfm or thereabouts...

A good turbo for mediocre boost would be a T3 0.57A/R, or maybe a T3 0.63A/R. You could probably get 250 flywheel out of it, and it would still spool quickly because they're so small. A turbo of that size should flow around 450cfm, give or take.

Stock motor is limited to about that figure, so unless you want to start ripping the block apart and replacing the pistons, I'd stop there.

Thanks for the info Red,

If I wanted to go with the T-25 as a intermediate solution until I get more familiar with Forced Induction do you think something as simple as fabricating an adapter plate would work?
Kind of a 'ghetto' T3/T4 to T25 adapter?

You cause a lot more problems than solutions when building adapter plates. They interfere with exhaust flow, they exascerbate heat exchange and radiance problems in the engine bay, and they mess up clearance issues for oil line routing and coolant routing.

You'd save yourself $1000 in headache and performance problems if you just go T3 to begin with, and then in the future get power hungry and switch for a T3/04B,E, or H hybrid for big power. Trust me wink

Red i appreciate you replying to my pm even though it was much later but thenk you.

n e ways what are the turbo ppl's views on this setup....

t3/t4 hybrid turbo, spearco IC, Tial WG, Aluminum IC piping, walbro 255lph fuel pump, aem fuel press regulator, champion manifold from Cheuk, and 550cc injectors.....any idea on the the gains i would be looking at for that basic set up? what would also be the cons about it? i also want to do Onpol's bored TB and IM but i cant seem to get in contact with him.

EDIT: also why is a recirculations BOV recommended with the MAF sensor? what problems would occur if i were to put on an HSK ss bov?

Don't focus on part names. If I had a Greddy front-mount intercooler that was 8x8x2, that doesn't mean it would outperform a POS 18x8x2.

Give us some better details on the parts you're using -- specific part numbers, measurements, quantifiable data.

Just the sheer magnitude of T3/04 hybrid options is stupifying. T3/04B, or 04E, or 04H? 0.57A/R? 0.63A/R? 0.87A/R? 1.13A/R? Exhaust trim? Cartridge trim?

You get the idea.

Red, where can I get a POS intercooler? That brand seems nice if it's better than Greddy!

...

Heheheh sorry, couldn't resist! wink
