turbo specs???

Default turbo specs???

ok, i bought this turbo off of ebay. it's a t3. it says m11 on the compressor housing. i talked with one of my friends who knows a lot about different models, and he said all he knows is that the exhaust side wheel is .60. i have no clue what the compressor wheel size is. i've looked all over the 'net, but can't find a damn thing. you can view pics of the turbo at

i know that the flange that bolts up the the exhaust manifold will not work with either the kore or cnk mani, but both companies said they could change the flange to whatever i needed. the compressor wheel has a chip in one of the blades, so i'm going to get a new wheel. also, the compressor housing doesn't seem to have some sort of lip to attach the intake piping, so there is obviously some piece missing, as there are holes for bolts to put some sort of plate on there. i looked at turbonetics, and i can get a new compressor housing for $144 and a new wheel for $96. i'm thinking that if i go this route, i can get a bigger housing and wheel, but i need to know what size i have as of now. i have no clue what car this might come on stock. i don't really know that much about this turbo. i got a pretty good price, so if i have to fix it up, i'm not really bothered. also, does anyone know of any good sites to get a rebuild kit from? i found a saab site that sells rebuild kits for the t3's that come stock on saab 900's for $100, but i don't know if EVERYTHING about the saab t3 will be the same as in mine, so i'm hesitant about getting that rebuild kit.

You should go to your local (or near) turbo shop, and let them tell you what turbo it is exactly and if it needs any work before being used. That's what I'd do smile.gif

contact Air Research. They should be able to tell you everything you need to know. That is their turbo.

M11 is just the outer housing. There should be another number stamped on the INSIDE of the compressor outlet, and the turbine inlet. Those are the A/R numbers, assuming someone hasn't decided to "hand massage" things.

does anyone know the website for air research? i couldn't find it. the model number plate has been removed. i called turbonetics, and it looks like i would need a new backplate (if get a new turbonetics housing and compressor wheel). also, i could get a rebuild kit from them. the total cost for this stuff would be around $480. i paid $122 for the turbo, so i would be spending $600 for a turbo with some upgrades. yeah, i found out that m11 is just a casting stamp. this turbo is also missing the wastegate, so that's another cost. it has a hole for the integral wastegate, but i saw a flange/plate on turbonetic's website that looks like it would cover this up, so i could then use an external one. any suggestions?

BTW, an external wastegate is pretty costy and can give you another point of failure in the setup; it is somehow more accurate than an internal wastegate, but it is not very revelant if you plan to run at low boost (~10psi).

There are no DISADVANTAGES in running an External wastegates EVEN when running LOW BOOST.It is defently more accuarte and conssitant than an internal gate

Where did you see the word "disadvantage", pal? I said it costs more to have an external wastegate and it adds another possible point of failure to the setup. My opinion is that it is NOT needed in a low boost application, especially when the turbo already has an internal wastegate.

he didn't quote you as saying "disadvantage" anywhere in your post. however, you DID list an external wastegate as being more accurate and not needed in low boost applications. therefore, you implied that these are disadvantages.

Look guys, I won't repeat myself 20 times; an external wastegate COSTS MORE and ADDS ANOTHER POSSIBLE POINT OF FAILURE to the setup; those are disadvantages, EVEN MORE when the turbo ALREADY HAS an internal wastegate.

Considering that the turbo you have is internally wastegated and that you'll probably be running low boost, an external wastegate would be overkill. That's an OPINION, not a FACT.

Anyway, you better start off be identifying your turbo correctly before starting thinking of options. Be sure you know both A/R and trims, then do some maths to see if the turbo can be used efficiently with the Beta; even if it's sized correctly, consider the fact that a new T3 sized to your application would cost something like ~$650.
