Hey there everyone,

My turbo parts inventory is growing. I was wondering if anyone could answer a few questions that I have:

1. What size thread is the plug in the head where we run our oil feed from?

2. Where do people usually tap into the cooling system for GT series turbos? Using splitters in-between the top and bottom hoses for feed/return seems ghetto. I was hoping there was somewhere on the block or head for the lines to keep it clean, kind of like the oil feed option listed above.

3. Does the OEM exhaust manifold gasket hold up to large amounts of boost? If not, what does everyone use?

Thanks so much for some help.

1) 1/8 pipe thread, thanks for the correction denis

2) Use the throttle body coolant lines, cleanest and best way to do it.

3) OEM is fine, some people have doubled them up when their manifold is warped or something but it'd be better to have it milled.

^^^I thought so on the oil feed, thanks.

As far as the coolant from the TB warming lines, would I run the return line all the way back up there or to the lower rad hose with a splitter installed w/a fitting on it? Is I guess the pressure from the water pump would force the coolant through the turbo, and back up to the TB area for the return?

I just want to make sure that will work well and circulate enough coolant through this bad boy.

Any other possible options on the coolant lines please let me know.

I figured the OEM gasket would do, just wanted to confirm on that as well.

Can someone with a GT series post in here and let me know how they ran the coolant feed/return lines please?

Personal opinions; is it worth the extra $450 for the GT3071 vs a t3/t4 50 trim w/360 housing? I am getting the 3" v-band and coating options on both so that is the same additional cost for each, the GT comes with the 360 housing obviously so no $70 add on cost. I think I might as well splurge on it because it will spool smoother, and sooner, last longer, and be more baller, lol. Not to mention if I want to get near 500 whp one day, this will push enough air for me to do so. I was just wondering what all your personal opinions were on gt series turbos if you have any experience with them. Everyone I talk to raves about the 3071.

Thanks again for the info/help everyone,

Tdonnell. smile.gif

I used the TB coolant lines. I routed it back into the return. Well, it doesn't really matter which way coolant flows through the housing.

You can see in these pics what it looks like. This was still in the rebuild stage.

And where it leads into the back under the TB.

As for the turbo's, why not go with the GT-R series if your going to spend the money tongue.gif

i'd go for the gt3076r those are very nice turbo to work with cool.gif

for the coolant lines, it can be done another way but you need to fabricate a bit of stuff...

I'm all about fabrication!! I am going to buy a miller TIG to fab up my exhaust/intercooler piping etc., so I should be able to weld just about anything. I am very proficient at all the welding processes so I can't wait to be able to show off my skill with my own one-off parts! Tell me your secrets Denisst!

That turbo would produce a bit more lag than the 3071 correct? I am looking for something that will be pretty responsive, medium-full boost before 4k rpm. I am not going for all out power, the car is pretty much built for the track and corners, it would be nice to get the lower rpm spool. And I think 480-500 whp is PLENTY for a FWD road race car, lol. Is the 3076 that much better? I see some surge reducing cast wells around the compressor wheel.

Thanks! cool.gif

gt3076r with a .63 A/R turbine housing should spool pretty quick and is good for a max of 550 whp
you can also get the gt3076r wit ha t28 style turbine housing wich can reduce spool time but wil llimit top end power

gt3071r is rated for max of 475 whp

you need to keep in mind that even with only about 300whp you'll have some grip problems coming out of the corners...
