Turbo Q: intake manifold and the vacuum lines
Yet another in my series of "posts to generate no responses". smile.gif
I was wondering if you turbo guys did anything special to keep the vacuum lines from blowing off. I'm refering to the FPR and Heater-vacuum specifically, since they are just straight nipples. The lines for the brake booster and vacuum cannister have some shape to them, so they should hold on with no problems.
This all may be moot at 5 psi. I'm only looking at most 1 lb of force on some of the connectors, but I don't want a boost spike or some other anomoly to blow off my fpr lines and cause any sort of damage.
Or am I being paranoid?

the hose clamps corkey bell reccomends are for the boost hoses.
I've never lost a vacuum line at 11psi. Batlord's never lost one at 12psi. Not sure about Onpol.
It wouldn't hurt to put baby screw hose clamps on them. Their cheap insurance.

Okay, that makes me feel better. I was doing some math and 10psi times the area of those tiny lines only amounts to about 0.12 lbs of force for a 1/8" hose. It's not that simple, but I'm pretty sure it takes more than 5 lbs to pull those off.
I was contemplating screwing something into the IM, but that seems like overkill now. I'll just hunt for some good clamps.
Man these little things can drive you nuts on a turbo install!
One more Q: you guys using anything special for vacuum/boost hoses, or just any engine dress-up kit hoses? Since I have to remove most of them anyways, I may as well replace them.
Thanks,
ac

I use RS Akimoto silocone hosing. You can get a "kit" for about $29 through summit racing, and 2 kits is MORE than enough to do the whole car.
Cool, thanks. I'll add that to my list of parts to order from Summit. I'm also going to be getting a boatload of AN fittings for fuel and oil.
I'd seen that kit and it said "for vacuum lines only". I was pretty sure that they meant "not for fuel or oil" and that they could handle boost.
thanks again,
