Default Design specs for Piston manufacture(Red,Random please read)

Guy's I am looking into getting piston's made in the UK, cheaper than importing.
I spoke to the guy in charge and some of the info he required was Engine volume,Bore/stroke,Gasket thickness, required compression ration, will the pistons need vlave pockets.
He requires me to send him one of my pistons.
What else would be helpful to tell him?
They did a custom pistom set for a Lantra a while back but I think it might have been a mitsubishi engine.
Check the link

Go to search piston details, then search for pistons and look up hyundai.
The pistons are forged so that is the good thing and it's cheaper than importing pistons.
Price works out at about GBP850 worst case although will be cheaper depending on amount of work required(reference if valve pockets need machined in)
All kits come with rings and pins.

Thanks Guys
Barry.

You sure about that being cheaper? The pistons only cost around US$550 from Ross, which is like GBP350 (right?). Unless you're looking at next day air shipping, it shouldnt cost GBP500 to ship them from the states, taxes included.

Yeah, I know shipping should not be that much, just keeping it as an option.

the custom's duties he would have to pay to get them into the UK is what would be so expensive. Shipping to him might only be $30 to $50 us dollars, but UK Customs Tax and VAT would be about 100 UK, if not more.

Your best bet is to just send them a stock 2.0L piston. They can be found in your local junkyards or from your project motor.

If you can't find one, drop me an e-mail and I'll ship you one of my many stocker spares.

Also keep in mind, the pistion/rods need to be designed to work together. If your piston maker drops the wrist pin down 5mm to allow for lower ring placement, then your rod needs to be made 5mm shorter. Make sure you know just what your pistion maker is and isn't doing.

I'll post up the rest of the info you requested tonight, if someone doesn't beat me to it.

Random, best bet then would be to send them a stock piston and crower rod say and get them to make forged pistons to match the rods?

Barry.

If you've already got the rods, yeah. Otherwise, crower will make rods to your spec just like Ross will make pistions to your spec. Im sure the UK pistion/rod makers can do likewise.
