Toning Down My Turbo Kit Again :(

hey guys.. i was wondering if anyone knows what a close threshhold would be as far as Hp numbers for just using a decomp. plate and not upgrading to 8.5:1 pistons.. i have the forged tigerlily pistons and stuff, but i dont wanna pay to get em installed, block honed, new rods, bearings, rod bolts, etc. so i think im going to stick with just getting the 3mm head spacer from kspec, so i can take head off, put spacer, and new gaskets on, and have 8.5:1 compression..
i just bought apartment, and furniture and i have kit on the way, so money will be tight, will the head spacer be ok? i was thinking of boosting 15psi with my t3/t40e turbo, getting a good tune and be done with motor work..
and for the turbo guys without internals, i may have some 8.5:1 compression tigerlily pistons for sale soon smile.gif i put the rings on, and am in the process of getting the domes polished..

I might be wrong, and Im sure someone will correct me if I am, but I thought you could only run 12psi on stock internals... the McIntyre tib ran 15 psi on stock internals but they had some kinda alcohal injection too

an emanage with a second boost fuel rail, and i am going to be logging my PLX widwband, and maps from the emanage and using the trace feature to see where i need to add fuel, or air, or whatever it may be.. i can list my full setup if that will help..

I'm currently running up to 1.3bar which is 18psi at WOT with a stock block and decompression plate. MY CR is 8.8:1
I thought you were thinking about the ECU swap kit for tuning? If so, you'd be minimizing a lot of risk damaging your motor.

obviously thats incorrect due to airbornes post, but tim had 17 psi for the longest time on stock internals

PSI is a general term, we've been over this before. Varies with how rich/lean the tune is, size of the turbo, etc.
I hate decompression plates. But you already know why we hate them, so its your decision.

air, i wont be able to afford the seimans ECU, this whole apt./baby thing is going to kill me financially, so the tib is being put at the back of the pack..
i will be running avg. 12.5:1 AFR, t3/t40e 50 trim turbo.
i know decomp. plates arent the best answer, but in a case where i want to get the comp. ratio down, for safer boost, wouldnt it be the best option.. im not going to boost like crazy. 18-20+ psi. i jsut want it quick, and respectable.. 260whp is fine for me..
as long as i keep my AFR a lil richer, will it be ok.. i know tim ran 17 psi, but not over a long period of time, i dont want to be close to the threshhold

You already know the risks about running richer for a long period of time. Fouling cats and plugs, bad gas mileage, etc.
Why not run 8psi for the moment, keep it tuned well, and wait for the funds to come in to do it the right way?

cuz the funds probably wont come in, and im sick of messing with this damn car, lol.. lots of people run the decomp. plate, so i figured it would prob. be ok.. bad gas mileage comes with having a turbo, no cats smile.gif heh.. 12.5 isnt really that rich, is it?
