Suicidal Turbos
Ok guys this is my second Turbo and same thing happend.
On my first turbo I noticed after driving the car more than 20 miles after turbo was installed I heard this loud noise seems like from the exhaust. It only happens once in a while, The more mileage I put in the car the worst it becames. When I was driving on the freeway after 20 miles I decided I had to stop somewhere car started hesitating and feel like there's no power. Towed the car to the shop they found out that the nut holding the compressor fan got loose and the compressor wheel got beatup by hitting the walls of the housing.
Bought new Garrett Turbo, it was working fine for maybe close to a 100 miles when I started hearing the same sound again, I drove for maybe 50 miles I check the turbo and there was allot of play but doesnt seem like the nut was loose drove again for about 80 miles feels like I got worst and went to the shop they said the nut came off and beat up the compressor wheel? I have a feeling that there is not enought oil coming from the oil feeder line but if I touch the lines looks like its warm.

So the compressor nut is loose on that turbo as well? Please share the rest of your setup in detail with me. Mods, tune, what sort of driving you do, hp etc...

Make sure that turbo is getting oil. no oil will kill a turbo just going around the block (i should know). disconnect the feed and put it into a small bucket and start her up. it should flow oil almost immediately. don't let it run for very long! if you have help have them hold a nut driver on the compressor nut so the turbo doesn't spin while the oil line is disconnected. where is your feed from?
since the lines are in the engine bay, and the engine bay gets hot, they should feel warm. that doesn't necessarily mean that oil is flowing. I had an issue where my cheap ebay line had stuff in it and clogged the "restrictor" mounting plate on the turbo.

I think the only nut loose is the one behind the wheel..
If your burning through turbos check your oil feed and drain lines. They may be blocked.

Oil feed and drain lines, you have a sandwich setup which i dont like, or would approve of, i would suggest you go for something like mine, off the block.

First Turbo was an ebay turbo second was new Garrett Turbo. My Oil feed line is connected on a oil filter sandwich, sandwich also has another ports for the oil cooler.
Tanc: Here's my current specs
Garrett T3T4 57 Trim .48ar Turbo
Accel 460cc Injectors
FPR from Socks set about 46psi
AEM FIC using radu's calib with minor adjustments for the idle
Walbro 255lph fuel pump
HKS v3 BOV
Everything else is Ebay stuff like Intercooler, wastgate, boost controller, feedlines, oil cooler, pipings etc
