is there much differences between them like quality, cost, etc. the point being i dont wanna spend alot of money for one if the other one is just as good: the person who installed my electronics (apexi safc and electronic boost controller) installs aem standalone systems all the time. but ive seen haltech systems in tiburons and i havent seen any aems. any info would be sweet, thanks

I have the E6X and have tunned a H22 turbo civic with the AEM. The AEM is much more advanced makes it harder to tune. I have also tunned Megasquirt. I would go with a Megasqiurt over the AEM anyday. But the Haltech is my #1 choice.

just to add, i have seen people, not nessesarily tibs, with AEM, haltech, megasquirt, etc.

from biggest PITA tuning wise that i could see, just looking through the software heres what i think for the standalones.

1 is most PITA, 2 less PITA, etc

1. AEM (really advanced, many, many options, a lil overkill for a street car)
2. haltech (not as much PITA, goo amount of options, pretty self explanatory)
3. megasquirt (easy wiring, pretty straightforward)

i love my piggyback emanage though.. i have enough tunability for pretty much anything that i want, and can run any size injectors, mess with timing, and i can unhook it in 5 minutes, and run stock fuel maps. really user friendly software, easy to navigate, turn off/on maps, etc.

So why didn't anyone mention the PRS4? Plenty if people are using it. It costs half the price of the Haltech. And I'm hitting close to 300whp. There's no reason why it can't support more power.

i didnt mention it, cuz i have never had experience with it, nor seen one..

and i knew the prs4 guru was going to come in here sooner or later and steer him in the best standalone direction for the money, or so it seems its the best option.. if i didnt have my setup, i would go with the prs4 if that has any weight on your decision wolfinsheepsyadayadayada

hahaha ok well im kinda leaning towards the haltech just the way people are talking about it but i will definatly look into that prs4 tho. im just so sick of my apexi. then i tried turning it up to 15 psi yesterday and ofcourse went way lean even after i was tuning it while driving. i guess that its too much boost for my 440 cc injectors because i couldnt pull anymore fuel out of htem it seemed. but thank you all for commenting

Too me support is really important when it comes to standalone. Support from people who have them and support from the company who makes them. Contact AEM and tell them your going to install an EMS on a Hyundai and you'll get laughter. Contact Perfect Power or Haltech and you'll get "How may I help you sir?"

I've emailed Perfect Power several times with questions and they always answer.

You can even check AEM's "support site" to see how they even ignore other more "popular" cars for help.

getting a high quality tuner is important.
We don't have any tuners for perfect power or AEM in australia.

popular standalone computers, motec, autronic, microtech and haltech.
Microtech is the easiest to tune and more garage tuners available.
