I just installed an OBX adjustable cam gear on my motor and I noticed a couple of things that are bugging me. The first thing is that when you zero out the marks the cam is 1/2 a tooth retarded. The other thing is the belt does not seem to mesh just right with the teeth as compared to the stock gear. This could be due to the coating on the new gear and having a new belt. Has anyone else run into this problem before? I have some cams that should be here next week and I'll degree them in just to make sure.

Yeah I'm taking this thing off. I wonder if most people just slap them on without checking the timing assuming that it's just correct.

i did have to zero mine, and the belt mates up fine with the gear.

the only problem with mine was that you have to wrench the absolute bejuses living hell out of those button cap hex bolts to keep it in place.

I was afraid to tighten them up too much and risk breaking the screws. I'm definitely not using it now.

you're not going to break those without using a pipe or something. go get some grade 8 hardware if you're that worried about it. also, post up some picture of the belt not mating properly with the gear.

I may have spoke too soon on the meshing part. You see when the old belt was on the old gear it would just lay there in the teeth without any tension. When I put the OBX gear on I also put a new belt on and that's when only the top third seemed to mesh and the rest was off. Once I put the tensioner on and tightened it they meshed. I've since put the stock gear back on. The motor is in an Accent so it's not the friendliest to work being done on the timing belt. I'll have to get some pictures later if in fact I do decide to use the gear. BTW when the stock gear went back on the new belt laid in the teeth without tension. Maybe the OBX gear has a thick coating on the teeth causing a slight miss match at first.

that's what i suspected. i say you keep and use the obx gear. you can set it at zero easily, and it won't move at all if you make sure the bolts are tight enough. from what i remember it's a good deal lighter than stock, no?
