Default My supercharger build

Hello to anyone still out there!

i’ve been working on supercharging the Tiburon over the past few years! I’ve got the supercharger installed but i am starting to run into a few issues.

first off the setup:
2000 tiburon
act hd pressure plate and street disc
aem Cai
obx headers
obx exhaust (glasspack and chambered muffler)
1.8 cam
1.8 ecu
ported and polished head
findanza flywheel
lightweight alternator pulley
ac delete
ps delete
aem Uego
aem Fic- radu’s tune
aem water injection system
ford 42lb green top injectors
adjustable fmu
walbro 255 fuel pump
m45 supercharger
urd 2.1” pulley (driven off of ac side of crank pulley)
kia sportage throttle body (dual 44.5 mm butterfly and same tps)
Boost bypass valve with 8-15psi spring
vacuum manifold
spark plugs are 2 steps colder

there might be a few things I’m forgetting.

onto the problems:
persistent misfire on cyl 3-... i’ve replaced all of the spark plug wires. No change in misfire.

occasional po121 tps voltage too high-... checked the wiring connections. All fic intercepts are soldered and heat shrinked. All tee connections are clipped in.

car idles around 2k rpm^ i’m sure that has to do with the above as throttle cable is slack. A reminder that the tps is the kiefco (good one)-... it is oriented in the same way as the beta throttle body (not modified).

ANY ideas????????

1st off, congrats! Looks like a lot of love and labour there! And way to be creative!

My guess with cylinder 3 misfire is its probably a rich misfire. Looks like cylinders 1 and 2 are getting the brunt of the supercharged air. Im sure you are compensating fuel for boost levels, but I doubt cylinder 3 is getting near as much air as cylinder 2. How did the plugs look on cylinders 3 and 4? I'd imagine 4 is also super rich.

As for tps. If it was working, look at replacing the sensor. Remember, good or not, (Keifco vs Daesung or whatever it was!) is getting old! I'm doing a complete overhaul on the rest of my rubber lines and seals on my Tib. Also replacing 22 year old calipers and brake lines due to age, not necessarily failures.

I'm sure you'll get some more responses. Those are my guesses. The former being a big can of worms, as you may need to rethink that custom manifold IMO.

Thanks tibby tib! So I haven’t updated this thread but most of these issues have been resolved!

cyl 3 misfire was due to the pin (injector 3 out) on the fic harness backing out of the fic’s harness.

the tps issue has more to do with where the sensor reads closed and how the sensor is wired. Reversing the 2 lower wires on that harness corrected the issue.

Notice the flat spot on the shaft at closed position on the sportage throttle body.

Here is my rside throttle body and the flat spot is 120* counter clockwise.

As for the supercharger only feeding cyl 1&2-... here’s a pic of one of the later alpine kits. You’ll see it also only feeds cyl 1&2. In big v8 motors all of the “boost” comes out of a similar sized hole as the m45 (within reason)-... it cannot feed all cylinders simultaneously-... it’s not the issue that everyone worries about (including myself at one point).

thank you for your replies and help! I’ll try to keep the updates coming on here as well as rd sharks on fb.

Nice! Glad you got everything solved at the moment. Sounds like that took some digging! Electrical/sensor problems can be the worst to track down. Nearly parted out my Tib over a 13 dollar ignition switch that was intermittently going south. One of the hardest things I ever diagnosed. Took me over a year to find it.

nice work man!
