my motor is on it's last leg... what should i do?
i've got a turbo charged 2001 hyundai tiburon with the stock 2.0 beta motor with 48,000 miles. Well i guess i drive the car REALLY hard and well seems like i've pushed the engine a lil too hard and i'm havin second thoughts about my turbo. I'd like to pull my turbo off (it'll be for sale... speed factor kit with fmic... with almost BRAND new turbo about a thousand miles on the turbo t3 super 60 with upgraded bearings...) i'll sell the whole kit to someone for a great price, just make offers... it's almost brand new, the kits maybe got 3000 miles AT the most. i'd like to do a motorswap... was reading that v6 swap... and that's something i'd like to atempt, don't bash me on cuz i like the idea v6 torque and base line hp compared to a 2.0 4 banger and also considering how much stuff is now available for those motors...also it's a 6speed from a nissan sentra, also i'm gonna shy away from forced induction atleast for the time being. If i do this motorswap(would require basically the entire front end of a 2003+ v6 6spd tiburon) my motor and stock 5 speed tranny with BRAND new(120miles) act stage 3 4puke cluth will be for sale... if you want the motor to rebuild i'll sell it cheap... or i'll just junk it. Transmission is fine.
My budget is gonna be around 5,000-7000 but i WANT it to RUN. any ideas PLEASE throw em out.... nissan sr20det is a possible too, front wheel drive... tranny is on the drivers side... I need this all planed out before the 1st of the year.
Also what has been recorded with a 2.0 beta na motor? any decent hp levels? NO NOS

What problems is the motor having? for only having the kit for 3000 miles I don't think you could kill a motor in that time just because of the turbo 8O. Betas are usually resilient motors.
Good luck on the V6 swap... however you could probably just trade in or sell the beta and turbo, and go buy a newer V6 with a few thousand miles on it. No need to go through the wiring and pain and hassle of a motor swap, unless your going to do it by yourself. Even then the time your Tibby would be off the road would be a pain in the butt.
A decent N/A motor (intake, exhaust, header, throttle body, intake manifold, pulleys (only if you don't run a sound system and keep an eye on them), intake cam, and tuning) would probably maybe push 160-175 to the wheels if the engine is strong in it. Running a lil bit of nitrous isn't bad if you keep an eye on it and keep the shot low. Nothing wrong with a 35 shot or so to get another 20hp and some torque out of the motor, and it won't wear it down anymore than if you redline it.

possibly got a rod starting to knock... sounds like it... but it could be a couple other things... got a bit more blue smoke than usual... sounds like the valves are tickin LOUD... could also be the injectors... but i've been pretty hard on the motor and have had so many problems with it... it just might be time to get a new motor... or it might just be my head... i might be able to get a new top end for my motor and everything might just be peachy... also a lil pissed cuz i gotta get a new starter now... some how it's done a burned out on me... but hopefully everything might be alright... i unno.
Ouch, I'm gonna have to start takin it easy on mine then tongue.gif I got 11k on my motor and car 8O I would think getting a new topend would fix the problem, but you don't wanna buy that, put it in, and find out its not the problem. If you sell the turbo and the motor/transmission and clutch you might get 3k out of it if your patient... Enough for a new motor and someone to install it in for you if you don't wanna mess around with it. At least thats the price around here. While its in the shop for a month you could send out for all the little goodies you want, throttle body, etc. When you get the car back, put all them little goodies in your spare time. Should have the car to where you want it 2 months after you first put it in the shop. Thats what my buddy did with his 1997 Eclipse. (His took a little longer cause they blew the rear seal putting it in, but thats diff story)

3000 seems to be an unlucky # for FI engines. Hobgoblin's Alpine Turbo'd tib went out at 3K. Rod, cracked block, nasty.
Well, don't forget to take into consideration that a V6 is heavy, and although it might give you more torque than a NA Beta, it's adding a lot of weight into the front. Your weight distribution is going to be even worse, and the car wont turn any better than before no matter what you throw on your suspension.
Being that you already have a turbo, why not go for a small--early-spooling--light-psi turbo setup? You could easily be around 180WHP and still being safe; and you already have most of the parts. You could get a nice pistons and new (OEM) rods and balance them and you would be superfine.
Just a comment, keep posting your thoughts...

I guess I missed the thing about the V6.
Sorry man, it's a retarded idea unless you got about 15K to put into it, and want to re do EVERYTHING. The weight involved is just rediculous. Not to mention trying to find an engine that will fit, a tranny that will fit, and still make enough HP to outweigh all the other issues.

well... i think an engine swap is out... i've just aquired a new head... it's got 15,000 miles... it was on ebay... so if the moderators wanna move this outa extreme mods and into performance... i think it'd be best since this ain't extreme no more.
I'm gonna pull off the turbo kit it's for sale for $1200... entire speed-factor basic kit($2000) and the fmic setup($400) including boost guage and oil pressure gauge. If someone can point me in the right direction to get headers.. cams... cam gears... cold air intake... throttle body... pulley kit... and other na bolt ons let me know... if you have any for sale... let me know.
