Trying to install an LSD yourself is a bad idea unless you have some transmission experience, it is a lot more involved than a clutch swap. I had a freind of mine who had worked in a transmission shop for years and was also a Hyundai tech do mine. You have to remove the tranny, crack it open, take reverse and 5th gear out. Then the stock diff has to come but you have to.......better get some one who knows what they are doing to do it LOL.

Manual trannys are not to difficult to take appart. My suggestion to anyone who wishes to do so Use a very high quallity digital cammera and take pictures as you go allong so when you finish and have a part left over you can possibley go back and see where it goes.

Personaly I have taken mine apart 2 times once to install a lsd and once to see if i could get a higher 5th gear with changing out the idler gear for 5th (not possible by the way) Anyway just take your time and work in a clean area make sure you shim the beearings right and you will be good.

buy a shop manual and it would be cake. it has exploded views of everything, and specific step by step instructions.

BTW, LSD install may be a good time to change syncros, if you have many miles on a tranny.

Cusco performance lsd
suit 1997 hyundai coupe 1.8 litre engine

just got the price from www.rpw.com.au
Its $1300 US

Very tempted to get it for the performance improvement but its a bit expensive.
Its cost almost the same as my Ported and polished cylinder head.
