Default megasquirt

hi all,

just wanted to know... is the megasquirt a full standalone ECU?

Anyone know where to get the specs?

Cheers Ryan

Yes the megasquirt is a complete stand alone. You can use ANY sensor you want as long as you know the voltage value. Specs are available online but for the most part you will be concerned with what type of 'processor' you are getting. The kit from KFX performance comes with MS 1/extra...however any of us who have purchased one waited a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time to get it. I suggest purchasing an unassembled MS2 kit from DIYautotune and putting it together on your own, if you are good with solder and a gun....its honestly pretty easy since they show you exactly where things go.

Im actually going to do just that, but i am actually going to make them for my business as like stated everyone waits a long time with kfx, its just another conveience thing. I want to know all the specs though, I seem to be getting shady information just searching (to many anomolies)

so, the one you brought from KFX... its completely standalone and plugs straight into the standard wiring harness?

did you get the 44psi model?

do these computers have air conditioning compensation?

Did you opt for any other features?

the kfx one does plug directly into the stock wiring harness connector. The most boost you can run with those (3 bar system) is 304 kPa which is about 30 psi. For 44psi you would need a 4 bar map sensor.

I believe there is compensation for AC that can be made with Megasquirt, I opted for no options other than the plug and play. I do not have a 44psi MAP installed since dont think I will go above 25psi this season and at that point the large 4bar MAP sensor would have too narrow of range for me to work with for correction.

another question guys,

can you have more than one map held in the MS? like an economy tune and performance which you can switch while driving if you please?

also how many tuning load points are there for setting up fuel, ignition & timing?

Ryan here are the VE (fuel) and spark tables from the MS1/extra, when you upgrade to MS2 the resolution nearly doubles from that of MS1 and MS3 is about 4x more than MS1. With the MS1/extra you can make high resolution (HR) codes as well, someone took the MS1 code and cut out all the non essential features to make more memory available for fuel and spark resolution. This gives a MS1 user more fine tuning without having to upgrade to the MS2 daughterboard.

Right, see im not good with the ECU information to be honest,I'm trying to learn more... As I said before I run a EMS Stinger 4424. I have posted the specs of my unit, am I better off with staying with the EMS or shourl I go and try the Megasquirt???

Injection

•Automatic battery voltage compensation.

•Tuning accuracy / resolution is 2 micro seconds.

•21X32 user definable tune maps.

•Triming control.

•Automatic Staged injection triggering.

•Allways ensures a seemless transition from primary to secondary injection.

Ignition

•Full Sequential ign (coil-on-plug)

•Directly connect to most OEM ignition systems

•Programmable ignition dwell

•Timing accuracy / resolution 0.2 degrees

•21X32 user definable tune maps.

•Triming control.

Trigger Sensors

•Compatible with most OEM trigger systems.

•Selectable magnetic, hall or optical cam & crank inputs.

•Automatic tracking and zero crossing detection on magnetic sensors.

•No need to adjust thresholds at different engine speeds

•Sensitive down to 150mV at cranking speed.

•Selectable trigger patterns for most engine manufacturers.

Input Sensors

•5 Standard inputs (Air & Eng Temp,MAP,TPS,Volts).

•1 user programmable special function digital inputs.

•1 Wide band lambda inputs with temperatre compensation to ensure accuracy

•Can use either the Bosch 4 wire or Innovate LC1.

Output Drivers

•4 User programmable output channels.

• Selectable PWM / Digital. e.g. boost control, Idle control, etc
