Default IHI vs Garret

Ok, i'm looking at a 7psi or so boost. So which is better for lower spooling a T3/T25 or IHI setup?

also how big of a intercooler do i need? I was just at a local performance shop and they quoted $1000-$1300 for the piping and tuning with a custom downpipe and all the other doo-dads.
is this a good price?

anyway, the guy at the shop recommended i get a spearco, but the one he recommended was $900 and he was using the same one on a 20psi setup(: eek! smile.gif .

For what you plan on running, the intercooler sold by CNK would be a much better alternative, price wise. It's in the $500 range.

ihi's are MUCH more expensive, but are ball bearing, so they spool faster, and run more efficently.

If you can afford it, the IHI would be a good idea, but they are "rare" turbo's, so finding downpipes/manifolds to fit them is going to be a challenge. If your downpipe is going to be custom made, no problem, but you'll want to make sure your manifold will fit the ihi.

i found several IHI's on ebay for $50-75 for RH5's. That should be good for a little over 200hp right?

well i was quoted 1000-1300 for
1.intercooler piping from turbo
2.air filter piping
3.intercooler piping to manifold
4.custom downpipe

and tuning for the turbo. Also all the metal being used will be mild steel(for cost).

This is a little off the topic, but what is the cfm of chris's I/C????

But the IHI is one fast spooling Turbo, Dragon Fab ( I know what everyone is going to say and I agree with you about them ) used IHI Turbos on the Twin Engine Tibby as well as the other cars that they had built. So if you can get a IHI in good shape for that price I would go for it.

But my rule of thumb is spend the money upfront for a new turbo cause I have had alot of problems with people who I build custom turbo setups for blowing the used turbos they bought quickly.

well the IHI is an awesome turbo!!! but it has a weak top end. but it has almost no turbo lag at all. but the T3-T25 will have noticable lag but have more top end. i know that all the IHI RHB5's are water and oil cooled but im not sure about the garrets off hand. if i was u i would go with the IHI. its an awesome turbo to play with.

I just realized I practically live next to IHI Shelbyville IL, probably 30 min away.

But don't ask for me to see if they have any extras lying around.
