Saw a civic last night at a local meet that was boosted but it had the most ghetto boost set up Ive ever seen in my life. All the piping was crush bent and it wasnt even used with stainless piping so it was rusting everywhere.

But it brought up a good thought....how much performance is decreased by using crush bent piping since the flow is disrupted and not as smooth as it should be. In a pinch, I would think it would be ok for a very short amount of time, but otherwise...why in the world would someone use it?

 

Crush Bent = No Bueno for turbo or intercooler efficiency. Any restriction like a crush bent section causes the turbo to work harder and build up more heat then if you have nice smooth piping.

 

Think in terms of total system efficiency. If the system has been put together that badly, the crush bends may not even be hurting it. However if the system is very efficient, then the crush bends are a major factor.
