Default turbo mounting location

why is it that i always see the turbo mounted lower than the manifold?
-seems that there would be more room to mount the turbo above the manifold, i know you would have to alter the hood but it seems it would get more airflow to keep temps down, more room for pipe routing etc...
- the only problem i can think of would be getting oil up hill from the pick up but surely somebody makes an oil pump for this purpose.
-just a though let me hear what ya"ll think

i figured it was that or oil supply.
seems like it wouldnt be that hard to run an aftermarket or custom hood that would give you enough clearance.

Are we talking about top mount turbos?

This?

There is also no oiling issues, as your oil feed is already pressurized from the oil pump....your not pullin oil from the pan.

-thats exactly what im talkin about. never seen it before (atleast not in person). seems to me to be the best way to mount it in a car like mine with very little room to work with.
-just a little sheet metal modification to the hood. or leave it off and make a new composite one.

You don't even need to modify the hood.

Google speed factor top mount in images.
