anyone know what i can look at spending to get a low compression head gasket installed? i have an 03 elantra, with a beta 2 motor. i was thinking of installing it with a very knowledgeable (sp) friend (honda/subaru super master tech, nissan master tech), but i think if it will be cheaper/easier, ill take it somewhere for install

anyone have ideas on how much im gonna be spending? i have the head gasket, and new head bolts, so i jsut need prices on the labor

/\ Yeah, maybe around there. Why don't you try it yourself?? If you have the parts already why not?

im still thinking about trying it. i know a guy who is a honda/subaru master tech and a nissan tech who said he could help me, but usually has somethin to do when somethin needs done. i was talkin to a couple people and i think ive got the basic idea of what needs done. ill think about it, but if itll be easier, i might just take it somewhere to have it done to save myself any trouble that could arise

Good point, peice of mind I guess too. I dunno though, whatever you think. I'm sure an uncle or friend has change one before and could give you a couple pointers to look out or watch for.

I'm the other way when it comes to motor work. I have piece of mind when I do it, rather than someone who works on cars just to punch a timecard. I really dont think they double/triple check.

I personally would do it myself. Webtech gives you all the info you need. Important things to follow:

Undo headbolts according to webtech (to prevent head warp when taking the head off)
Throw those head bolts out.
Clean block top / head bottom good before replacing gasket.
Replace gasket.
Use NEW headbolts and torque in steps in order according to webtech.

Head Disassembly

^^ Agreed. Really this is something I would attempt yourself. If you were talking low-composition pistons, than I would recommend you take it to a professional. I think this is something most people could do if they have the tools and the time.
