Got my Turbo!!!
Just won an ebay auction for a Garrett TXX turbo. Guy didn't know the make, but the A/R ratios were right on the money for a larger T2, T28, or a small T3 (checked the specs on www.turbofast.com.au). If the wheel sucks, I can get a 60 compressor wheel from Turbonetics for $100. Rebuild for the bearings are only $90. Water cooled, oil lubed. Seemed like a great deal.
Grand total $80. It may be a bit undersized, but the seller had a superb rating (101) and the pics looked good. Even if it needs a rebuild, I'll probably still come out ahead on this. No wastegate actuator, but it did have the integrated flap. Something else to add to the list.
No real point to this; 'cept to say:
Now it begins . . .

$2000 for a cheap 6-10psi setup on the 100% stock motor. About 5000 to 10000 for a 300+Wheel HP monster.

Random's right on with those numbers. My budget for a 6 to 10 psi setup is $2000, with me doing all the install work myself, and about 2 hours of dyno tuning.
The turbo is a T-XX Garrett off of a GM car. Compressor A/R is 0.48, Turbine A/R is 0.49. Small, but fast-spooling. Don't know the trim wheels, but I did a lot of pump/gas-turbine work in college, so I'm going to try to estimate the trim level with measurements and the charts on Turbonetics' website.
Flange is smaller than a T3, but only slightly (and the same proportions). I'm guessing T2 or T25 right now.
$80 covers the turbo housing, compressor housing, center section, downpipe adapter (with integrated wastegate flap and O2 sensor hole). I priced a rebuild kit (for the bearings) at around $90, so even if I have to work on it, that's still a good turbo for under $200.
This is solely the product of patience. I have been researching and figuring out what I wanted and looking for deals the last two weeks. I found that auction just last night. Similar auctions are going for $200, $250.
