Either company is going to make an excellent turbo which will do the same thing at the end of the day, but you should be able to get a hybrid turbo from any company for less that $700, also remember that if you want an internal wastegate it will most likely cost a little more.

60 trim

Precision T3 50 trim

Garrett T3 50 trim
I have to agree. Both units will perform well, I prefer Turbonetics and don't find their prices to be unreasonable especially for the number of different ways you can configure a turbo for the same price. My personal preference is all. I've actually never personally used a T2X frame unit on any car. I've always been able to get as much or more power with the same boost response and threshold with a properlly sized and A/R's T3.

again, i still don't see this 'customization' difference. the place i get all my turbos from for my turbo kits that i sell, I can pick anything i want and have them do a custom build on it..

these are just SOME of the options i have for the garrett t3/t4e

Base Turbo:

Garrett or Schwitzer .50ar T04E Compressor Housing

57 trim T4 Compressor Wheel

Garrett T3 .48ar Turbine Housing

Stage I Turbine Wheel

Options:

Internal wastegate with 3 bolt or V-band flange or no integral WG

.60ar Schwitzer compressor housing

Water cooled bearing housing

Stage II or III turbine wheel

O-trim or P-trim turbine wheel

.36ar, .58ar, or .63ar Turbine housing

.82ar turbine housing

.70ar T04E compressor housing with anti surge inlet

60-1 compressor wheel

among other comp wheel options

only a few of the options will actually add to the initial turbo price ~30-40$ like the huge comp housing with anti surge or a .82 turbine housing.

what else more could you ask for in customizing? pick your wheels, housings , bearing housing (oil or oil/water) internal WG or not

For this specific application you likely wouldn't need it but one example would be a T3 turbine wheel with a T61 or T66 compressor. I've actually used that before on a Nissan motor I built. Unless I missed an announcement I don't think Garrett matches larger T4 compressors with T3 turbines. Again to each their own I suppose. I prefer Turbonetics units over Garretts based on the past vehicles I've turbocharged. I also happen to prefer ordering things from a manufacturer and having them built at the manufacturer with the wheels and housings I want and not having to leave it to the dealer/vendor to install the wheels and housings I want on them.

IMHO The Dual Ball Bearing Garretts and Turbonetics are the best money can buy.
