Can I use ECU from RD2 ? I prefer that one , cause I can use obd2 scanners with it. Is it a straight swap ?

Thank you !

not 100% sure tbh, in the UK no is the general rule. Rd1's were map based and they added the MAF for the RD2's so ECU's probably not interchangeable, not sure if that applies to all countries though

So I will stick with Rd1. Found the same one as mine 2.0 97' Siemens. Do I need to buy the keys and imobilezer or only the ECU will do the job ?

Thank you Rob for the useful info !

I don't know specifically what they did for cars in your area, but in USA if I recall correctly the immobilizers didn't come around until the next generation of cars (XD elantra) came out. In my 2000, a 1998 computer worked with no problem.

Try to find RD1 ECU without imobilizator, RD2 ECU won’t work because it is MAF based ECU

So the "new" ECU is on the car and it doesn't want to start! Cranking, fuel pump working ... it's like trying to start it with the purple key. The one without chip. Tried to use the chip that came with the "new" ECU and still nothing.

Will try again tomorrow after Conor vs Gayweather.

Sounds like immobilizer issue if your cars have one you can't just swap ECUs. Think you have to swap ECU and body control module?

03tibe85 is right this time

Yesterday right after I posted here decided to check if I have immobilizer and guess what... I have

The guy that sold me the ECU told me that there is no immobilizer and also some of you said so. Read a topic that you guys in the States can swap ECUs with no issues, but my ECU is different.

So I know what's wrong, but the bad news the guy is out of the country and will be back september 8th!

While waiting will work on the intercooler, piping and exhaust manifold.
