I am going to have 2.5" turbo back piping with Apexi world sport 2 muffler at the end.

My question is that do I really need a resonator in the middle of my exhaust piping?

the reason is that I don't really like annoying noise inside the cabin when I am cruising on highways.

Is it going to be crazy loud without the resonator?

or should I get a cheap glasspack to reduce the loud noise?

please let me know.

thank you all in advance.

Turbo acts as about 1/2 a muffler, so with 2.5" piping and a muffler, you will most likely be happy

My car isnt stupid loud, its not stock, but it sounds good. My setup is turbo->cat->muffler with 2.5" pipig connecting them

i've got an apexi ecv.
kills the exhaust noise with a button lever.

once turned on, you can only hear the engine noise.
rarely used it though, only if there's cops nearby.

Turbo acts as about 1/2 a muffler

So the turbo takes away 50% of the sound ? (i mean if you just put a pipe instead of the turbo then the sound is 2 times louder then with a turbo)

No, your confusing what i said.

I didnt say a turbo halves the sound output.

I said its about half a muffler, meaning, it will deaden sound half as well as a muffler.

This means if you had the same car with the same diameter piping with the same muffler, with no turbo, your car would be ~1.5X as loud as if you had the turbo.

In other words, with the turbo, your exhaust will be deadened as if you had ~1.5 mufflers. Which is why some mufflers are called "turbo mufflers" meaning they deaden sound less, so when you couple it with a turbo, you get the same sound deadening as one regular muffler.

Im sure that made sense to somebody, and im sure that confused the hell out of somebody. wink1.gif

lol.. alex...

nate, if you want the lowest sound.. dont use a straight thru muffler, and use a long glasspack in the center section of the exhaust..

i have this exhaust..

its about as loud as you can have a turbo exhaust.. FULL STRAIGHT thru from the turbo to the outlet.. with the silencer, it wasnt bad with noise at all.

i noticed an accel. increase, when i blew the silencer out, lol, and its louder, but i can live with it.. i will eventually install a 30" glasspack..

Its a great explenation but i am realy confused now. Does the turbo give you more or less decibel out of the exhausth ? I think a little bit less.

A turbo will quiet your exhaust down a bit. Not much of a difference but a little.
