Exhaust Gas Temperature
testing in DSM's with 4 probes says cyl 1 is hottest, its not much and has nothing to do with the temp of the cylinders around it....
you do NOT put your EGT probe in the collector, your trying to get a true measure of the combusion chamber temp not the temp before the turbo, EGT will vary by a couple hundred degrees in that few inches and you wont know exactly how much... hence its useless

denisst explained to me that cyl 1 is the hottest cuz its closest to the fuel pressure regulator so cyl 1 gets a little more fuel to it which makes it hotter
makes sense to me

How can you state that the temps of other cylinders will not affect the temps of other cly. If for say some reason clyinders 3 and 2 are running lean? Come on now its pretty obvious that the extra heat generated in those clyinders will heat up #4.
From the research on other fourms of all cars.."MOST"(not all)...DSM use Cly 1...Honda use Cly 3,,,Rx-7's use the downpipe and Supra's also use downpipe.
I don't feel its "useless" to locate the probe in the collector.
From the pics I have seen of turbo setups in Korea they all use collector.
For anyone installing a EGT guage with a turbo setup the location for turbo tiburon owners is kinda biased you should do your own research and make the decision for yourself with your findings.
PS.
I know for sure Random Melted a piston in #4 with his Alpine setup and I believe Jaws021 may have aswell?(not exactly sure with Jaws)
an egt is pretty much useless once a car is tuned and will tell you wether your ignition timing is advaced enough or not. a cheep autometer egt is more than enough even if its only off 10% it wont be enough for the average tuner hence everyone on this forum. if you want ever little hp out of yoru motor your going to be spending the money elsewhere anyway. Also Autometer states in there instalation instructions on a turbo car that it needs to be in the collector and for an Na car it needs to be on cyl 1 as this is the 1st cyl that will have detonation (igntion advaced to far ect) if you dont think so call up autometer. also i run around 1400 on 15psi at around 13:1 also the richer you go the hotter it will get unlike what you would think as some of the fuel is burning outside of the cyl in the manifold.
