I was checking out some Ralliart Evolution Lancer engines and figured their engine bays look very similar to ours. I'm not experienced with engines but I have a mechanic who is an expert at building and swapping engines. Since my engine is becoming a grandpap, I might even think of swapping the entire engine to a newer one and swap the transmission as well.

How difficult would it be to get my guy to throw in a Lancer Evolution engine in my 1997 Tiburon? Would it give me a lot of gains, would the engine be okay with wiring, would it fit well, would it be any good for the frame?
Our engines are almost identical. It would also beat the hell out of buying a turbo, tampering with accessories that needed to be installed including labor for each, or having your engine rebuilt and waiting.
They look almost identical to our cars:

The engine I could probably get for $3000 shipped, Pay about $1000 to get it running in labor. $4,000 total. If I sold my car it would probably be worth $2,000. So buying a new used car wouldn't really make much sense. And it would be cheaper than buying a new car.

engine isnt what you need to worry about

the fact that the car is AWD is what comes to mind

I highly doubt dropping in that motor will only run you $1000... and even then you run into the AWD problem as mentioned.

The wiring would be enough to give Tibby01 a headache and a half.

it would be a lot cheaper to build up your motor, and you would get close to the same results.

haha.gif

Northstar is a V8 Caddy engine. lmao.gif I don't think its similar...

OK... say your engine is fried.

New Beta with 5 Speed = $1500ish installed by a professional.
Redone internals while motor is still out= $2500ish installed by a professional.
Standalone Turbo Setup=$4500ish installed by a professional.
-------
$8,500, you doing no work to the car yourself.

EVO VII Motor and Tranny=$3000ish
Wiring Pain in the Ass, Dropping in motor, new mounts, etc=$5000ish
Converting the AWD tranny to FWD=Expensive and Non-Reliable

... and EVO motor only makes 260 to the crank stock. Your Tib setup will be reliable to 400 to the crank robably.

what Ham said. Get this idea out of your mind man. I can see if you had some cash to spend to try to be different, but it's just not worth it as it is.

Swap a tranny, rebuild your engine with low compression pistons and new rods, get yourself a simple turbo kit, and be happy with 250-300whp!
