Engine/transmission Rebuild
As many of you saw in my previous post for winter projects. I have decided to go a totally different route for my engine/transmission setup. After talking to a person at Level10, it is way cheaper and more effective to get the manual transmission swap and rebuild then engine from there. Level10 wanted 3,200 dollars for a bulletproof transmission, which I can complete the auto/manual swap and get my engine built for aroud that. After discussing with Faith, he suggested the following:
Copper Headgasket
Block:
overbore
vac cleaning
magnaflux
checking the deck
deburring
red glyphol
Pistons:
Wiseco forged low compression
Stock Rods:
Shotpeened
Head:
Porting/Polish
Cams
New springs/retainers
Polish valves.
Manual Transmisison Swap:
Clutch
Flywheel
I am asking the forum members for other suggestions and their opinions. I am shooting for around 300 horsepower, which the T28 can handle, and I think I will be able to accomplish with this setup.
Thanks,
Sean

300whp will be tough for that lil T28, but other than that I think its a good idea to go with the manual tranny and getting the engine stronger. The Beta manual tranny is very sturdy when abused properly.

the stock head gasket will hold up quite fine for those HP level..
i've never been a big fan of cooper gasket , but that was before the newer ones with imbedded silicones rings, thinghs might be better now...

Another route I may be taking if I decide not to build my engine is this:
Fully built engine, talked him down to 2,100 for the following:
2.0L Fully b\Built Motor
-Wiseco pistons
-Pauter rods
-port/polished head
-balanced, clearanced, deburred, trued, cleaned, etc
-perfect for a highly tuned turbo setup.
-this block is fully built by CGM motorsports

recommend to buy the cgm motorsports full built engine.
provided that they have excellent reputation for engine rebuilds.
3mm composite cooper head gasket cracked at 20psi 335 hp.
I eventually found out afterwards, that they are rated for 7psi to 14psi.
i've gone the full rebuild with a Metal Gasket for the cylinder head.
supplier. http://www.importperformanceparts.net/
metal gaskets are rated for 20psi plus.
i'm not sure why anyone, would keep mentioning that stock gaskets can handle 300hp+.
Unless its racing workshops in Korea that can afford engine rebuilds every 6-12months.
for a t28 turbo.
gt2540, gt2871r, gt3076r.
my garrett gt3076r is rated at 500hp.
With the new engine rebuild and modified manifold, car is now spooling under 3000rpm.
I haven't tested the max hp yet, as I'm running in the engine for the next 2-3 weeks.

well thats not a gasket thats a head spacer a copper gasket thats not a spacer will hold more power
also
we have metal headgaskets from the factory...hence why they will hold to 300 BUT YOU NEED PISTONS not a spacer

trust me,
an OEM gasket with a CORRECTLY resurfaced head and block will hold quite a good amount of power
BTW head studs at this point aren't even an option...

That's Maierapril's built engine right? sounds like a good buy!!!
oh yeah, are you going to get colin's auto to manual swap parts or do you have something else in mind?
