** MOD EDIT: QUOTE REMOVED. Please do not quote the post righht above yours.

It sounds sweet but i will only be running 8 psi an for the price your talking you could get megasquirt which is a build-it-yourself ecu that costs half of what your talking about maybe if the price was about 3ish that would be a good deal , and then I would be interested

The fact that the ECU is not easily tunable is a BIG down for a tuner, you know.

would i be able to piggyback onto the ECU like i am now, for more precise tuning.. i know dumb question, but i already have all the stuff i need for piggyback, and its easy to tune..

no

And WHY a modified stock ECU could not be tuned with a piggyback? That doesn't make sense. You could piggyback a standalone if you wanted, it would be ghey, but it would work.

Also are you aware that the ODB II and ECU plug in are necessary to pass emissions in my state as well as others?

I would like an answer to this question. Are Korean ECU OBD-2, and does the modification retain that functionnality?

Personally, I would pay a good amount for a mean to easily tune a stock ecu (be it our Kefico ECU or the 16bit Siemens), but just drop in a new pre-programmed modified stock ECU which I can't control more than the old one sounds kinda silly to me.

Agarwal, you're correct on the piggyback. If you really want to, you can use a piggyback, but there really isn't a point though since the ECU can learn and adapt to your setup.

Yes, Korean's use OBD-II, but they use diffent programming so it doesn't register to OBD-II scanners in the states. The point of this kit is to RETAIN US spec OBD-II capability by swapping out the harness (bringing back to US spec for emissions). For everyday driving you'll essentially have a Korean spec car running a MAP sensor.

Coming to Korea has truly humbled me and my tuning ability. Before coming to Korea, I thought of myself as a decent tuner, but now I realize I've barely scratched the surface. Yes, I installed my turbo kit, big brake kit, suspension, etc. Engine management tuning however is a completely different beast. Unless you're extremely familiar with the management system and the engine, you're just asking for trouble -expensive trouble.

Everyone wants to be able to tune their own car (including myself), but how many times will you realistically tune your car? My shop has tuned so many cars like mine all they had to do is load up some data that matched my setup and *poof* 300whp. No "tuning" necessary. Why keep reinventing the wheel? Just use what works from Korea. Why start off on a dyno with 250whp and tune your car to get 275whp when you can use the years of experience from Korea to "plug and play" 300whp.

Also keep in mind, most people only care about the top number when talking about horsepower. The top number doesn't mean crap if you suddenly spike up to it. If you look at my dyno earlier in the topic you'll see that I have 90% of my max power starting at 4700rpm. Very FEW hyundai owners can say that.

The ecu is pretty amazing. It adapts to your driving style and power demand. For example, My friends and I race up and down a mountain course and the ECU will actually raise my idle RPM during hard driving up to nearly 1500 rpm to prevent any chance of stalling during extremely hard braking and steering.

If you really want to maximize the ECU potential, we also have a 2 mode ECU where you can enter 2 sets of data. ie: fuel economy & racing, set to a switch.

Can someone get me a GK 16bit Siemens ECU from a junkyard? -I can pay you for it. My shop needs one to see if they can tune it. This way we might be able to retain cruise control.

Good points.

Is it possible to lower the price by using used ECU?

Aussie Coupes are Euro-spec... How does my ECU differ from the Korean one?

I can look for sure.

Any specifics you need for it?

I'm not sure if they used a different ECU in the states for the I4 and V6. In Korea the I4 and V6 use the same ECU, but the ECU versions are different and harness connectors aren't the same. I'll take whatever you can get, but let's try to start with an ECU from an I4. Make sure the car is MAP based because for some reason I thought I saw a MAF in a GK once in the states.
