Ive been following this build and I have to say that its really impressive.

Thanks, I appreciate hearing that! It's definitely going to be one of a kind and a sleeper... With a big intercooler.

Decided to take my time with everything and not rush it. There's no point in having to go back and fix something that was rushed. It's been on jack stands since May of 2017 and I'm ready to drive it!

I'm getting close though..

We finally got a decent break in the weather around here, whole whopping 40º, so figured it was time to get the bumper cover mounted.

OEM bumper and all it's stock glory

Removed the air dam because I already knew it would hit the intercooler piping

OEM bumper cover didn't quite fit properly with the intercooler and piping behind it. So the next rational thing was to cut it up and make it fit.

Next thing I'll get around to is taking the stock air dam plastic and cutting it up and re-using what I can. I wanted to install OEM fog lights but at this rate, they won't fit.

Disregard the beat up hood.... decided I wanted to drop it one day and that was the result.

Started to poke around the car the other day and just happened to glimpse down and noticed that both of the axles were popped out of the transmission by a good 1/2". Did some measuring and decided to go with Beta II manual axles that are slightly longer than the stock MC Accent axles.

Stock axles popped out of the transmission

Removed the ABS tone wheels from the stock Accent axles and put them on the Beta II axles. Accent tone wheels have 48 notches whereas Beta II axles have 44.

Threw everything back together and made sure the ABS tone wheels were in the right place and that the axles stayed locked in the transmission

Do the ABS rings need too be the same amount of teeth or can they not? I'm asking this because I have the 4-lug - 5-lug swap ready for my RD1 and I thought they had to be the same...

Man, I thought I was crazy but you're out of the ballpark. Why did you have to swap out the axles?

Stocker 03-06-2018 06:34 PM

As he said, the axles are different lengths. An accent is smaller so its axles are shorter.

I'm so glad for you Spoolinshark that the rings just swap over like that. Was it really a direct fit? That's amazingly convenient.

SpoolinShark 03-06-2018 08:40 PM

The Accent axles are in fact slightly shorter but I'm starting to think that they weren't locking into the differential properly. They seemed to have popped out on both sides by simply just turning the wheel back and forth.

As for the ABS tone wheels, I'm pretty sure there would be an issue with the two styles of wheels. The ecu would see the front with 44 notches and the rear having 48 and would more than likely think the wheels were going two separate speeds. I'm sure that would wreak havoc on the ABS in terms of it working properly.

Since this is the first car I've owned with ABS, I preferred that it worked like stock. My friend and I just heat up the tone wheels while popping them off and on again. Luckily they fit without issues! The true test will be when I start driving the car and hoping no dash lights turn on. I'm fairly confident that won't be an issue though.

Been roughly a month since I've posted an update so figured it was time. Not a whole lot has changed but I did take care of a few small things and finally bought some wheels.

Cut the stock air dam plastic to fit around the intercooler pipes

http://i574.photobucket.com/albums/s...304_175610.jpg

Not the greatest of pics, but the air dam pieces are installed back in the bumper cover

http://i574.photobucket.com/albums/s...310_145749.jpg

Ordered Federal 595 RS-R in 205/45/16

http://i574.photobucket.com/albums/s...316_172922.jpg

I've wanted Rota Slips for sooooo long... so I went ahead and finally bought a set

http://i574.photobucket.com/albums/s...317_151104.jpg

Mock fitting the wheels in the rear which may require a small spacer to be more flush. The front might need to have the fenders pulled a tad but I won't know for sure until it's on the ground

Well... You see, what had happened was....

I have a beta II oil pan on a beta I block next to a beta II trans. The bottom two oil pan bolts that go into the trans case don't quite line up.

I'll eventually fix it since it bugs me.
