I've searched and read through all of the posts mentioning BOV's but I just could not find the answer to a rather simple question a friend of mine asked me.

To be exact, what should one observe when buying a BOV?

I know that i must take a note of "Recirculating type" if I have a MAF based ECU or "Vent to atmosphere" if I have a MAP based ECU. but is there anything else that needs and must to be taken into consideration when buying the stuff.

Search this site to see what other people use. there is a topic called "post your boosted engine pic" or somethin along those lines. most people who posted list their mods. then you can see what the majority run with.

Ah ok will do wink1.gif

Basically I thought that there are some characteristics (features) that would make some BOV's stand out when compared to others but this will do also.

Thank you for the prompt answer

I havent either but I did read that they are made poorly, and are not as strong as the non knock offs.

Id proceed with caution on ebay knock offs. I like the Greddy blow off valves..they are made real well and have a nice sound to them. If you dont want to spend money then a DSM blow off valve is your best bet.

Running light boost pressures you probably won't run into problems with ebay knock-offs or blow off valves from stock cars. Its when you start venting more pressure that they start getting stuck, leaking, and all sorts of wierd things.

also, i have NEVER had any problems with my atmospheric BOV.. the emanage has a setting to prevent the car from being rich under shifting.. with the setting on, my car used to run uber rich and stall sometimes when i put in N. but i turned the setting off, and havent had ANY problems in hot or cold weather, with the car stalling, with the atmos. BOV.

i got the hks ssqv bov installed on my car purely for the sound.
I decided against the greddy rs bov, I watched a video sound off comparison between the two bovs.

for secondhand units.
