Default Best exhaust for turbo setup

I am looking for an exhaust for my 2001 Tib. I want a 2.5" mandrel ben Catback without a resonator. Do I have to go to a shop or what is the best exhaust to buy.
I am planning on 9 psi so 2.5" is ok I think. And the shop is going to be more probally than anyone I find online, $600

Thanks

If your boosting to 9, and the exhaust is that pricey... I would consider....

A) 3inch Crush/Press Exhaust, Mild Steel
B) 3inch Crush/Press Exhast, Stainless Steel
C) 2.5inch Mandrel, Mild Steel

The Mild steel is going to be cheaper and lighter than stainless steel. However stainless steel keeps heat in better. At the levels your looking at, its not going to be a ginormous difference between, maybe a couple (as in 2-3) ponies. Mild steel also has a life of about 4-8 years, stainless steel will probably outlast your car.

3inch press is comparable to 2.5inch mandrel. Like the above, for the levels you are shooting for (mild street boost) going to 3inch is going to flow about the same as 2.5 mandrel.

Whether you think the few horsies is worth the extra 300 bucks is up to you. Personally I think its better spent on fuel management at your stage, or towards lower compression pistons. That savings will cover 8.5:1 Tigerlillies, and let you boost 1-2 more PSI on the street, more than covering the lost power from mandrel stainless steel.

Ham, I realise that maybe the internal dimensions of a 3 inch crush bend are the same as roughly a 2.5 mandral bent.... but did you ever consider flow? Those little crush kinks are going to slow down the flow through the exhaust no matter what you do about it. Fluid dynamics should tell you that.

I realize its not going to flow as well... the point is that if he can get the press for a lot cheaper. (3inch press, mild steel is about $200 around here for the piping) $400 is better spent on something else for a daily driver to make it more reliable. A few little wrinkles aren't going to cause any problems other than the loss of a few hp. Spending that extra $400 on something for fuel management, pistons, etc. will make the car more reliable, and therefore a better daily driver.

depends on wath you want..
plenty of DSM runs in the 12 seconds range with simple 2.5" well done crush bent exhaust

for a street car wanting max gains i'd go with a 2.5" mandrel bend exhaust simply because the 3" one will be much louder..
if you're not affraid of noise and want max HP go with 3" mandrel

3" isn't terribly loud... it is a good bit louder than 2.5" though. I never really hear the exhaust nowadays with the external wastegate and all though. tongue.gif Those things will hurt your ears.
