Default NorCal Hyundai Meet Sun Nov 23rd StrawHat Pizza Tracy, Ca

The Alpine s/c only runs at 4psi no need for head spacer. And as far as Unichip programming
I was quoted I think a little less than a grand for tuning. ouch. Good thing Alpine is just up the highway from here. The Alpine turbo comes with head spacer.

That's ridiculous. All the shops around here will tune my turbo with the SAFC for $100-$200. The highest price is from one of the most well respected shops in the nation. Might as well go ahead and replace the Unichip with a SAFC and still come out cheaper after the tuning.

Yep that was there quote. I couldn't beleive myself. They quoted Random a hefty price as well when he was going to try and get his retuned. I think Unichip just wanted there stuff to be complicated its a good piggyback bust not many people tune it around here so cost is high way high.

The unichip should NOT have to be re-tuned, unless you change/modify the alpine setup. If you do plan on changing things, plan on getting rid of the unichip and 5th injector. The complications/tuning cost is/are a drawback.
If you can replace a head/head gasket, you can install the alpine head spacer/gaskets.
GUDE has a turbo kit out for the Beta2, if folks email them and request it, maybe they will adapt it for the beta1.

I more lean towards the more linier power delevery of the S/C... but sometimes it is tempting to go turbo. What kind of system is the Gude? How does it compare to the more popular alpine?

Go turbo trust me. I have he s/c and I want more power all ready. That and I am limited on a intercooler. Although I thinking of nitrous combo down the road.

Well.. let me ask this then. the Majority of my driving is highway.. with spirited back country roads on occasion. I would assume that the turbo would give me more power but not hurt my MPG at a steady 70mph?

The weird thing is my gas mileage is still the same in highway miles laugh.gif . I don't have to down shift anymore to pass anyone thank god. The s/c has kick at 3k to 5k after that no more uhhfm. My 5th gear pulls good better than stock. But if I had to do it over again I would of went turbo. Thats why when I get back this summer from Iraq I will rebuild me a beta to handle nitrous and the s/c at 6 psi so i have the daily power and extra power for the 1/4 mile. But thats still in the air.

Why only 6psi? Intercooling is only a factor if it gets too hot. There are more than a few Foci and Honda with JRSC kits based around the same M45 Eaton supercharger and running 8,10,12 and 14psi.

You can safely double the boost up to 8psi and get at least a 20-25hp jump in power for under $200-300 for the cost of making a smaller blower pulley.

www.aspracing.com

You can run up to 10-12psi without an intercooler and the inlet temps getting too hot. But I would recommend water injection above 10psi. With a returned Unichip, free-flowing 2.5" exhaust and the proper header, you should have no problem getting 170-190hp easy.

Since I'm picking up a Tibruon in tomorrow or later this week, I would like to blow some myths out of the water. I'm seriously considering TwinCharging the car and I would need both a supercharger and a turbocharger kit to make it possible.

Since the known areas of turbocharging have been covered all around the Hyundai relam, I think its time the outter limits of supercharging is explorded a bit.

I have connections with some great header builders, I think if there's enough interest I can have some supercharger specific Beta headers designed and built. They should be at least 8-10hp better than the best N/A designed header for Beta engines.

Ooops sorry hi-jacked the turbo thread...

The Alpine puts down as adversized from what I have seen which is 220-230hp with just the kit and close to 300hp with larger fuel pump, injectors and additional tuning. Pistons should be fine up to 300hp, just don't detonate. Its not as hard as it sounds...

Tuning is critical...
