adding a Turbo Kit to my 2000 Tibby 1.6 NA?
#1
HI there,
Im thinking of adding a Turbo Kit to my 2000 Tibby 1.6 NA...
However I assume that there is a lot more to it than just slapping on the kit... have any of you done something like this? what else will it envolve? the mechanic said something about reinforcing the pistons..
basically what I want to know is disadvantages, how expensive a mod are we talking about, and is it worth it?
Thanks Guys

a 1.6 is pretty small so you would need a smaller turbo than what most people use.
the same rules apply when doing it. depending on what your goal of power is all depends on what you need to do to the engine and drive train.
for a starting budget i would say your looking at around $3000 u.s and thats without using junkyard parts. turbos systems are not cheap and cheap turbo system are just that, cheap and wont last or will mess your engine up.
if your going for monster power, swap to a 2.0 engine and tranny, beef it up with some nice forged pistons and rods, bigger injectors, fuel pump, fuel preasure regulator and stand alone. get a nice stage 3 or better clutch with beefy axles and you could pull over 350whp.
for now, search around this site and other sites like www.hyundaiaftermarket.com, research what others have done.
if you have any questions at all, feel free to e-mail me. if i dont answer back right away it is because i am up to my neck in other turbo stuff but i will e-mail ya back.
do a good search and see if you cant come up with a lot of answers to your questions first. the answers are out ther because a lot of people have already been down that road. you will be surprized at what you may find out.
happy hunting

nope. In europe there are the 2 versions...
theres the 2.0L, and the 1.6L
LittleJohn, thanks for the input, but... I dont want 350HP! lol... way too much... I wanna run at about 200HP...
What about Superchargers? suposedly they do the same thing as a Turbo but on an NA car... right?

Supposedly, but not on ours.
Our engines just aren't SC friendly mang. Xorro, in the UK, has the highest SC dyno I've seen, it's 199.9 WHP, but, she's spent prolly about 6,000 getting it there. And i'm pretty sure it's the 2.0.
My first Girlfriend was Portuguese. Hot ass chick.
