Hey guys

I wanted to rise the redline of my 2.0 beta1 up to 8.000 rpm.
I bought a '98 spare engine with 60.000km to be build up (during winter) with 1.8 beta1 crankshaft 1.8 beta1 pistons and custom (forged) rods to keep my displacement of 2.0L.

I found two source engines for the 1.8 parts… a '97 with 130.000km and a '00 with
35,000 km.
Are crankshaft and pistons from the 130.000km engine still useable for my project or are they too "old"?

Is it possible to use the whole 35,000km engine with custom rods to get 2.0L displacement?
What else do I have to change to make the 1.8 work as a 2.0L (I suppose cams, ecu/wiring harness, timing belts)?

How much hp do the 1.8 internals (crank, pistons) hold? Are 180whp + 75 shot nx possible?

Thanks a lot

Ian

1.8 and 2.0 engines have different block, 1.8 block is shorter.

why do you want to rev up so much?

Your theory is correct, you can use a 1.8 crank in a 2.0 block.... BUT you need custom rods.

Okay, I missed that you have custom rods.

I am a little confused. You can not keep your displacement of 2.0 with a 1.8 crank... essentially it is now a 1.8. (both blocks have the same bore with different strokes).

This is why you go with aftermarket pistons to make up the loss..

go with 20 or 40 over

Why rev so high?
I want the 1.8 pistons for a bit more compression and throw in some 264° cams with cam gears and stiffer valve springs, flywheel and pulleys
That setup will put my power band higher... so I need to rev higher...

Its also a slight advatage in dragracing where I dont have to shift that much...

BUT... Where do I get some custom lenght forged rods and forged oversize 1.8 pistons in the US/Korea/...
The ones in Germany are way to expensive...

Lots of companies will make pistons\rods to your specs, but since they won't have the design already, they will be expensive.

If your revving 8000RPM, you won't be using pistons off a stock Tiburon engine. Your going to need forged. Have you contacted Pauter\Wiseco\etc.?

First off... you need to find out the measurements for your "custom" rods.

Call Crower... they can help you in building them.

You however need to find the specs, or have the shop thats putting your engine together do it.

I also strongly recommend you carefully think about your plans. You said you wanted the stock 1.8L pistons, yet you want some oversized ones.

Although the dealer does sell larger sized OEM pistons, i recommend some aftermarket cast high compression pistons, as it seems like you wanna stay NA.

There are a few people reving the stock motor to 7500-8000 rpm. With aftermarket rods, it should be safe.

1.8l rods will hold to 8500 due to the short stroke

my engine is a 2.0l and is 1mm Oversized and running crower 1.8l rods in it

to hit the 8000 mark you must MUST use duel valve spring or you will have big "kboom"
