GARY

if you use STOCK 1.8 rods and STOCK 1.8 pistons since the 1.8 is basically a destroked 2.0 it brings compression to about 8.1:1

i personally dont like this setup but hey if you wanna try it go for it

Try this reseller and worshop for advice and buying the parts.
They specialize in hyundai and mitsubishi.
http://www.rpw.com.au/

I purchased the following parts from them.
forged pistons, rods, rings, camshafts, ported cylinder head, valves.

My car is currently in the workshop for the next 2 weeks strengthening the engine with forged pistons & rods.

Everyone is saying is saying that the 1.8 litre engine with its stock rods is good for 300-400hp.
But 16psi, 300hp - 400hp its starting to get risky breaking the stock rods.

my original Turbo head gasket, 3.00mm composite graphite cracked at 20psi.
I've now replaced it with a metal gasket from this dealer.

http://www.importperformanceparts.net/
multi-layer steel gaskets.

if you're thinking about upgrading rods, pistons.
Then recommend to consider getting a steel head gaskets.

Does going with the shorter rod slow piston speed down? and allow you to rev higher?

I was under the impression that the 2.0 pistons/rods combo was good for 350hp, and that the 1.8 pistons/rods combo was good for 450-500hp, and that no decompression plate/steel headgasket would be needed because with the 1.8 liter stuff that automatically lowers the compression down to around 8:1 right? Is this information correct? I am talking about OEM stock pistons and rods btw not aftermarket forged anything...
