Hello, I know I don't have a tiburon (I actually currently have a 2004 elantra boosted at 15psi), but I am re-doing my setup and I want to put the 1.8l pistons and rods in the engine to lower compression. I mostly was interested in hearing back from some of you guys who have done this, or from you guys who can get the pistons and rods as well. I called the dealership and found 1998 pistons, rods, and rings would be about $900-$950 which seems too expensive. Someone on elantraxd said that mad_john can get them for like $150? (Been trying to contact him about it but have not heard back, can anyone else get them?) They also offered an overbore version that cost the same. Does anyone know of a good place to get these pistons at and is this a decent solution? Thanks any help is greatly appreatiated!

to my knowledge, it is better to get a 2.0L (for stroke reasons) and because not much is made (valvetrain and piston wise) for 1.8L's

Yeah I'v checked out that website quite a bit and followed his build for his tiburon, only problem is he has never answered a single question I have asked him (including the 1.8 pistons and rods) thats the main thing thats holding me back is all these people claim they can get them but they don't answer me back...

Another option is use your stock rods (2.0L) now with Tigerlilly pistons from Kspec or another shop in korea. They will lower your compression to 8:5:1 and will handle the same amount of abuse or more.

I have been using them for the past 2 years on medium-high boost levels of 15-20 psi with no problems.

why don't you used wiseco or other forged pistons and keep your 2.0 rods?

How much hp are the stock 2.0 rods good for do you know? I was under the impression 350 which may not be good enough, and I would deffinetly like to be under the margin, for example if I wanted 400 hp then I would want rods that were good for 450-500, because it doesn't seem like a good idea if I wanted 400hp to use rods that are good for 400hp you know?

Thanks again for the replies!

The stock 2.0L rods are or should be the same strength as the 1.8 rods. Only difference is the length. Its been said that the OEM rods can take upwards and a little over 400WHP.

If your planning over 350WHP play it safe get some pauter rods with weisco pistons.
