Default 1.6 Turbo Cost?

I was wondering what would I need if I would turbocharge my wee 1.6 motor. I want to only spend $4000 big 'uns and it must be able to boost safely to 10-15 psi. Any ideas?

Oh yeah, before someone tells me to search, this topic is in respect to the 1.6 BETA not the 2.0.

well, I'm looking to do 5 to 7 psi on a 1.8 for under $2k (actually, I'm at $1000 right now and only have gauges and piping left to buy).

I scrapped most of my parts together from ebay and this forum.

good luck,
ac

1000 for a Turbo setup!!!!!!
Hey, give us some leads from your personal experience man (sites, etc)

In regards to 1.6 (I also have one) I think the most difficult part would be getting your ECU redone or reprogrammed, because most of the ready to plug setups are made for 1.8 or 2.0 engines.

What would be the aproximate HP figure on a 1.6 runing moderate boost? I think cost/benefit on a 1.6 does not justify the big investment.

Okay, well, the full how-to and pics will be on www.turbo-tiburon.com later this summer. Here's what I have so far:

Garrett T25 turbo: ~$100 ebay
new manifold for T3 turbo and wastegate: ~$300 onpol (a forum member)
Turbonetics Deltagate II, used ~$50 onpol
Audi 5000 intercooler, used $115 ebay
1G DSM BOV, used $61, ebay
Powerdyne 12:1 Rising Rate FPR, used $60 ebay
Various oil lines and coolant fittings: ~$100 local power shop
Various fasteners, $50 McMaster-Carr industrial supply (www.mcmaster.com)
1G turbo DSM fuel pump, used $25 ebay

And a bunch of other misc stuff to make it fit.

Total spent so far: ~$960

Need to buy:
Exhaust: downpipe and connector pipe to cat ~$150
Gauges: Oil Pressure, EGT, Boost + pods ~$250
Intake piping and wrap: ~$75
Intake couplings and reducers: ~$40
Misc "O $hit, I forgot about that" items: ~$75

For a total of about $1550 installed + tuning time. The only things to tune are the wastegate and fuel pressure regulator. I'm going for low boost, so larger injectors, ignition, and elec. fuel management were not needed. My original budget was $2k, so hopefully I can deal with a few unexpected items without going over it.

Sorry for the long post. I hope this helps in your project.

First off, throw out your "boost requirements". Set a HP requirement. "boost" is a lousy indicator of HP.

I make 169 WHP at 9 psi, yet there was a Nissan Sentra that made 220 WHP at 10psi at our last dyno dya, Onpol made 227 WHP at 11psi. Just 1-2 psi of difference, same displacement, vastly different WHP figures.

you neet to set a WHP goal, and then we can help you get there.
