Default turbo + stock A/T =

I'm waiting on the CNK turbo but have no plans with the transmission yet. I've thought about DIY swap to manual and a level10 A/T. Problem is I don't have the no how to swap and not the money for the new A/T. I talked to a local transmission place today and he said that he could only replace the clutches and that I should just run my stock A/T till it dies. Thats about when I pointed and laughed at him. Any Suggestions, Concerns, Donations ?

Say goodbye to your stock A/T. It won't last long. I am sure that once you get the turbo installed and tuned you are gonna run and run and run it. Even with the replaced clutches. Level 10 can upgrade your torque converter and possibly that along with the new clutches and a tranny cooler you may be safe if you drive conservatively and don't go to WOT from a standing start too often.

Yeah, at least get a tranny cooler, they are cheap and will, with out a doubt, lengthen the life of your transmission.

I have a local shop that can do the clutches. I'll deffenantly get the tranny cooler. I e-mailed level10 and told me that they can send me their PTS tranny and torque convert for a little under $3500! Thats what my choice would be but I just can't afford it.

OK. I think I will get the torque convert, the clutches, and tranny cooler. Hope that holds.

Level 10 PTS tranny would be great but that is a pretty penny to pay. If I had the money that would be a definite modification.

Good luck and keep us informed.

I personally despise AT trannies. If I ever get too old/arthritis in my arm or it needs to be cut off or something, I just want someone to shoot me suicide I don't know though. You could probably find a 5-speed in a junk yard for pretty cheap and you could just tear out the shifter and clutch control assembly from the 5-speed car. It does seem like a lengthy pain in the A** but I would be willing to put myself through it if I were you. I know for a fact that installing the transmission itself wouldn't be nearly as hard as putting in a shifter and a clutch pedal. While I haven't had to do it to my Elantra 5-speed, I have done it to other cars and it sucks. I do wish you luck with it though. You could always try and ebay your AT transmission if it isn't too torn up.
