Default Transmission problem on gen coupes

Does going from an 18" wheel/stock tire size to a 20" wheel and really wide tires hurt the transmission? I had a mechanic tell me that it puts alot of extra wear and tear on the transmission and will cause it to prematurely wear out.

Unless you are talking about some cast iron wheels. The difference is likely to be <30lbs and the car won't even notice.

Going to 35" tires and hitting the rocks, THAT would be hard on the transmission.
