see, i'm in the same boat as you, chris. my 1st and 2nd synchros are pretty much gone. but why buy a used tranny that someone may have beaten on? the synchros may be half gone on the used tranny. i plan on doing mine this summer. i don't think the parts will be too expensive. but i'm sure it'll be time consuming.

it costed me 35$ per synchos and 2 day of time.
the job isnt really hard, but you need a good memory and good tool!
i think its better to rebuilt you're tranny than a used one no?
the used wont be in "like new" condition..

I'm in the same boat. My 5 yr ran out last year.
Plus my 3rd gear syncro is toast. I sometimes have to double clutch to get it in there. When I changed the gear oil, though, there were no metal shavings. But something's definitely wrong.
I'm trying to put this off until it gets really awful, or I need a new clutch. Then I'll do a whole tranny rebuild at once.

I'm outta warranty, but my gearbox is good.
I never force the synchros, especially when the gearbox oil is cold.
ive done 140,000km, and i aint no grandma driver wink
