Don't use Mobil 1 gear oil. It reacts with our soft-metal syncros or coatings, or something in the gear box (search the forum for more specifics). Apparently this can lead to early failure.

Redline's synthetic seems to be okay.

I use Penzoil gear oil from Advance Auto Parts. Has worked really well.

Here's a link to my page showing the various plugs, check holes, and fill holes in the tranny:

good luck,

I also reccomend Redline MT90.

it may be more expensive, but it's worth it.

i'm using redline mt90. it cost me like $23 to get three bottles from summit. not a bad price, considering you really never have to change the gear oil. gl5 oil has sulfer in it, which eats at the brass in our synchros. mt90 (i think all gl4 oils do) have shift modifiers, too. stay away from valvoline's synthetic, too. i ran that for 13,000 miles and finally figured out that it was gl5. when i drained the oil, there was WAY too much metal in it. but the mt90 improved shifting a lot.
