RPM??
Hey guys, I have this feeling that my engine runs a little too high. On some mornings, totally random .. or even if it's been sitting for a couple of hours the car will start up and be a 2000 RPMs for a while( over 10 min). I took the car to the dealership and they did all kinds of tests and even kept it over night .. but couldnt recreate the problem. Is this normal for anybody else? Also when I go about 80MPH the RPMs are at 4000 .. is this the same for all of you?? Thanks guys.

4k rpms at 80mph sounds about right momma. thats what mine used to be before i put on my APC gauges and jacked up my tach and gas gauges. but as far as being at 2k for more than 10 min, i dunno about that.
What does everybody elses car idle at after warmed up??? around 850-1000 isnt it??? and a quick question, do i have to unplug my computer when i get my tach set right, and if so, where is it located??? thanks, and i think you're ok tibbygirl. some of the engine internals are splash lubed, so thats why the high idle when you first start your car(correct me if im wrong guys) but 10 minutes does seem a lil long.

It is normal a higher idle when the vehicle is cold but not 10 min. nor 2000 rpm. I suggest you check it out this can be many things like a water temp reading fooling the computer. It is better to take it go your dealer. Nothing major to worry but too many electronics involved to take a good guess. The computer interface will tell them exactly what is the error code to correct your problem.

You say the dealership cannot reproduce this? The "hyundai" method for checking idle is assine.
Step #1 make sure the engine is warm
Step #2 Start engine and run engine above 3000 RPM for 5-10 seconds
Step #3 let engine sit for 60 seconds.
Step #4 Check idle. Should be 800 +/- 100.
Try this and see if it fixes your problem. If it does, that is why your dealer cannot reproduce the problem. Take it to the dealer, as to talk to the service manager. Explain very nicely that you feel it is a safty problem that they should fix. Try to reproduce it for him. Ask to take him on a short drive to see if you can reproduce it with/for him. If possible, you drive, not him. That way you have a higher chance of the problem showing up. Chances are he will baby the car.
The problems could be the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS), the actuall throttle cable could be getting stuck somewhere, or your Idle air bypass could be going bad.
There were some Service bulitens on TPS's and The Throttle cable on the early first gen tiburons, but I don't think that would apply to your 2001 Tibby.

Drop me an e-mail. I have a computer we can hook up to your car and fix your gauges and speedo and such. If you come down for the Hyper meet, we can fix them in about 30 minutes. Or..next time U R in LA, lemme know, we can fix it up 4 you.
