Hell, I'd go with the 6speed just for the increase in fuel economy over the 5 speed.
i thought since the 6spd has shorter gears, the fuel economy would be worse than that of the 5spd, with its taller gears? dunnoHell, I'd go with the 6speed just for the increase in fuel economy over the 5 speed.

With the taller 6th gear ratio, freeway fuel economy is better. Hyundai does rate the v6 6speed as 18mpg city vs 19 mpg for the V6 5speed

if im not mistaken the 5th gear in a 5 speed is the same as the 6th in a 6speed.. its just gears 2-4 that are different...or they are really close to being the same...i think i saw the gear ratios on hyundai koren site...yes the six speed may be slightly quiker but you have to remember that while your shifting, the 5 speed will still be accelerating...this only applys for modded cars..stock for stock i do feel that the 6 is slightly faster but i primarly do road racing and autoxing so in my opinion..the extra gear just gets in the way...and yes ive driven all versions of the us tib

- [*]1st = 3.462[*]2nd = 1.950[*]3rd = 1.393[*]4th = 1.031[*]5th = 0.825[*]final = 3.650
6spd ratios
- [*]1st = 3.153[*]2nd = 1.944[*]3rd = 1.333[*]4th = 1.055[*]5th = 0.857[*]6th = 0.704[*]final = 4.678
2nd-5th are very close. first and the final are not. and you also have to consider the larger tires on the v6, which gear it taller, too.

Random is correct. final Gear ratios total offset the gearing numbers.
You could take you current tranny and by simple changing the final gear. You can make your gears longer or shorter.

do you guys even know how to drive why are you worried about gear ratios anyway if you are getting spank by a 5 speed you are doing something wrong . I have a 03 gt v6 and i love the way mine drives i smoke more cars that are 5 speed in 3rd and 4th gear so what now and red light to red light no problem any car bring it on and just remember its not the car it's the driver little boys

That was the least informed statement I've read in a while. Gearing is extremely important. Gearing on the 6 speed is better stock for performance driving. A simple differential gear change and a 5 speed could walk all over a 6 speed car. Gearing is a compromise between highway cruising rpm's and maximum performance. Hell, with low enough gearing and a good driver a Beta Tib could take a stock 6 speed GT Tib.
