Delta V6 6pseed tranny useless?

This question is for all you Detal guys... is there really a performance difference between the 6speed vs. 5speed? I understand the concept of shorter gear ratios and utilizing the power output of a motor buy properly mating gear ratios, bla bla. However in the GTV6 does it really matter and is the 6speed just a comodity? Or does it actually have some use. I'm gonig to buy a 2k3 GTv6 and am wondering if it's worth me getting the ultrasports package 1 just to slap a 6speed (plus the pedals and the wing and converting the leather to cloth i like too)...It's under $300 for the package so i wonder if the 6speed is worth my time. Otherwise i'd just go for the base GTV6 and stay with a 5speed and add my own aluminum pedals and wing later. wink

get the 6spd.

the v6 is ****ty without it.

I been in both.

And the 5spd makes the v6 a dog.

I also forgot to ask is this unit a cable linkage or rod linkage? It straight up feels like rod which is the general concensus of what should be supplied in "drivers" car (or a car meant to be driven, u guys know what i mean). It's just that i've been spoiled by my 1st gen tib cable linkage which shifts soooooooooo smooth. Oh well, i guess i'll just have to get used to it.

It's just the 6speed i drove felt really notchy on the shifting and i really like the smoothiness of cable. Oh well.

I wouldn't consider the 6speed worthless. Hell, I'd go with the 6speed just for the increase in fuel economy over the 5 speed.

However, not everyone likes rowing through the gears, and the 6 speed does require more driver interaction than the 5-speed does. You might not think the 1 extra gear makes that big of a difference, but it does....especially in rush hour traffic/a lot of city street driving.

It's really up to you. Give them both an extended test drive, and then go with whichever one you feel more comfortable with.

shad....is right...the 5spd is a dog...but you do have to shift more frequetly with the 6spd.

Shadohh 03-23-2003 03:23 AM

shifting is fun.

Its an trade off for performance.

Dont wanna shift? Then deal with being slow and get an auto.

i have a 5 speed and its no dog...wanna race......just got back from mason dixion drag strip today and ran a 14.4 with a 2.4 60ft MAJOR wheel hop....i have video...only mods are kore intake/exhaust and weight reduction...

I am sure the 6spd will run a less time.
